Dead SONY SPORTS WM(s) wanted

wombat - 2010-09-22 19:37

I am playing around with cassette transport removal for a safe ipod touch case using a defunct SONY Sport Walkman.
I have about 6 of them, but they all work and I don't want to destroy a working unit. The only one (wm-fs191) I have that doesn't work is too small. One of them that is a size match is my working wm-af59.
I do have a cheesy generic knock-off candidate called "High Frequency" which actually works, but has lousy low volume sound. It is a good size but I'd really rather have it a SONY WALKMAN as long as I'm doing this work.
My son's best buddy walked into a lake and forgot he had his Ipod touch in his pocket--$250 bucks down the drain. If possible I'd like to get 2 of them.
Are the earlier ones bigger?? The one (I forget the model #) with the round port-hole to view the tape?
Thanks,

i am not sure but are you talking about a retropod. i mean a sportsmans body with an ipod player inside ? i have one roughed in right now.i am just waiting for inspiration to take it from here. i am using a panasonic sv-mp020. i think at least 3 would fit in a black wm-f5. it's very basic but works fine and holds 600 songs at 64 kb/s. it is powered by a single aa battery. of course it doesn't sound as good as a cassette would.

Yes, a Retropod. For outdoors, etc.

I have about 6 various Walkman Sports and one odd knock off. All but one work. However, that not-working one is too small. I'm not going to damage any living Walkman in the making of this project.

I'm not sure which Sports Walkman affords the most room to fit a Touch ipod except the one already mentioned, WM-AF59(plays perfectly). I don't have a WM75, but it is supposed to be small as well, so not sure if this is what I need.

The article about the retropod is built before the touch ipod, and those early ipods fit in any Walkman Sports.

Sorry, my request was written kind of late at night.
Thanks,
Chris C

Hello,

I have sence gone to the smaller Sansa Fuze ipod thing. I like that it has FM becides music/movie storage(and SUPER cheap compared to apple stuff). I'll keep my eye open for a bigger sports wm for the ipod touch, but now I'll just do my own and worry about the kid's if he gets another one.
