Walkman WM-10 belt wanted

sktn77a - 2011-03-03 17:24

Hello all:  New member of the forum here.  I have a Walkman WM-10 that's not working.  I took it apart and the belt had perished - pretty common, I understand, with this unit.  I bought a replacement belt from Vintage Electronics (the only place on the web that I could find had one) but it's WAY to thick for the WM10 - looks about 2-3 times thicker than the one that came off the unit and snags on all the guides because it’s too thick.  Does anyone have one of these belts for sale or know a reliable source that sells the right part (don't want to go through the same routine again as I did with with Vintage Electronics).

Thanks,

Keith Muir

I've had great success with Fred from Marrs Communications, http://www.marrscommunications.com/. He has top quality belt kits, otherwise just tell him what size you need. I've also used the guys from Vintage Electronics however they have got the sizes wrong once or twice, they're still a good source even so.

It helps if you know the exact size of the belt you're looking for.

This Ebay seller has belts for many Sony Walkmans.

Welcome to S2G Keith,
I've lready replied to your message but will also share the information for others here..

For the US based partstore isn't that bad at approx $5 per belt +$7 shipping

http://www.partstore.com/Part/...y/331540500/New.aspx

The belt can be used in the wm10/20/30, wm F10/F20 wm 10II,wm w800, wmf65 wmF15 series

You get a 'SONY' spare sealed in a vacuum sealed plastic pouch/cover. The sad thing is that they sometimes staple the bill to the belt packs...air enters and the belts deteriorate inside the packs. Surprisingly belts stored loose seem to last quite well.

(If you hit a NLA - (no longer available) I can always help  board members economize with a 3 belts kit/assorted pack if you are okay with the 10+ day wait of international registered airmail   )

Thanks guys.  I e-mailed PartsStore but they never replied.  Based on DocP's recommendation, though, I ordered the belt from them.

Fingers crossed!

You can also contact Sony's part's department. They still sell belts for around 4USD each plus shipping.

Well, all, I got the belt from PartsStore and it was the correct one (REALLY thin compared to the one I got from Vintage Electronics).  I was able to get it all back together and running again.  The last belt lasted over 20 years, so this one will see me into the grave!  The hardest part of the re-assembly was those two darn Dolby and Metal switches (bitch_s).  I finally stuck some Scotch tape on the outside of the case where the switches are and there was just enough stick on the ends where they poke though to hold them in place while re-assembling.  I wrote to Vintage Electronics a couple of weeks ago to tell them the belt they are selling is not the correct belt but I see it's still on their website.  I wish people wouldn't do that!

Well, thanks again, especially to DocP.  The Dinosaur has his Walkman cassette player back!

If you ever need parts again, try the Sony Professional Parts portal.  You need to create an account, pretty easy, and you must have the correct part number.  I just ordered a few items from them and it take anywhere from 2 to 4 weeks to get the part, but they are genuine Sony parts and accessories.

Hope this helps.

Hello Members,

The Sony 3-315-405-00 Belt for the WM-10, WM-10II, WM-800

and more, is No longer available from Sony or Any Belt

manufacturer Still in Business.

The 0.035" Belt available in the USA, will work on SOME

models but it is "hit and miss".

I CAN have this belt Made in Japan, but must purchase a

minimum of 100 Belts.

Keep in mind, Pricing would be about the same as the

part number below.

I had Sony 3-352-022-01 Custom Made last year, but

no one wants to pay the price.

It is expensive to have belts custom manufactured,

AND pay the Freight from Japan.

( eBay $15.00 ea ).  My website $10.00 ea.

Welcome to S2G Fred Marrs

Although some belts appear as NLA No Longer Available on select outlets like Partstore lucky for us we(I ) still have enough belts in stock for 'down to Earth' prices in 'almost all sizes' , but thanks for yet another option  I've got a few friends on tapeheads.net who are very happy with your premium service for tape deck belts ...but most walkmans are easier to please
