WANTED: AIWA HS-T600a

aiwa.walkman.vintage.fan - 2011-09-14 21:52

2 years of looking on ebay: no dice.

I have a red AIWA HS-G09 to trade.

ao - 2011-09-15 05:51

Oooh, you have taste sir.  One of my favourites.  I hate to say it but I have one in the AO vault, deffo a keeper, sorry to tease.

ao - 2011-09-15 05:53

Sorry, here she is...

ao - 2011-09-15 05:54

If it's any consolation, they don't sound as good as many cheaper Sonys.

walkgirl - 2011-09-15 14:58

And when Agent does not want it anymore he will give it to me

aiwa.walkman.vintage.fan - 2011-09-15 20:51

Now that is bloody gorgeous.

I wonder who at AIWA (and the industry) said "less metal! more plastic and round edges!".

I have the HS-J600 and HS-G600 (which are quite nice). I wonder why the sound isn't so good on the G09/T600A.

Well, name your price and i'll make it worth your while!!!

Your comments are interesting as I too wonder this.  During the 83-86 period Aiwa produced some very pleasing designs venturing into areas you wouldn't neccesarilly associate with walkmans, namely colours, shapes angles and button configurations.  These designs reminded me of japanese cars of the 70's which attempted to emulate American designs of the same period & in doing so created a uniqueness of their own.

That said, these are some of my favourite walkmans.

Sadly though, I must now produce this picture....

coolcol - 2011-09-18 09:06

I also think it is a R9

ao - 2011-09-19 00:40

Now this is interesting.  What do we know about the R9?

AIWA HS-T600a was $165. I'd pay 4 times that now! 5 even!

Can't imagine what things would be like then with the ability to buy an iPod Nano for the same price. Making mix tapes is a lost art. Making mix playlists- EASY. but a mix tape you make in real time.

I think a good portion of the iPod lineup has the appeal that that mid-80s AIWA lineup did. Look at your collection above- MAD AWESOME.

Here's a great question- how many black unopened cassettes do you have? I have about 2 dozen maxell XL-II and XL-IIs. with a few metal in there.

You're in luck. One has just become available

Quite frantic bidding till the end, and went for a good price since it was in good condition along with being supplied with the original case and what appears to be its original ear buds.

@ aiwa walkman vintage fan - So did you bid and win?

minty - 2011-09-28 02:10

Yes. We all want to know!

ao - 2011-09-28 04:04

I'm astonished!!!

isolator42 - 2011-09-28 05:05

Those headphones look so similar to some Sony 'Fontopia' headphones I got in the late 80s. Aiwa & Sony were closely related then, yes?

ao - 2011-09-28 05:13

These aren't the original phones for this unit.

They are really old AIWA ear buds, but what should this model have had?

aiwa.walkman.vintage.fan - 2011-10-17 18:21

The Aussie HS-T09 was relisted with a buy it now of about $250USD. I went for it. I'll now have the HS-T600a and the HS-T09. I can cross that off the bucket list!

ao - 2011-11-09 14:09

Superb, let's see some pics when it comes through

aiwa.walkman.vintage.fan - 2011-11-12 19:06

@Aiwa walkman vintage fan, where did you dig those beautiful R9 Pictures from?

why won't you ask the guy who took 'em?

bonzo - 2012-02-08 18:47

The R9 I'm convinced is guarded by unicorns and leprechauns.
I hope it doesn't exist- its impossible to find!
I just got a gray HS-G09 today too. A banner day!!

coolcol - 2012-02-09 02:29

It is not impossible to find as patience is the key. Mind you it helps as i have one but sadly it does not work.

In what way does it not work?

bonzo - 2012-02-10 08:49

Twin towers of power. Even if they don't sound as good as a Sony (WM-100mkII in foreground)
