was cleaning my aiwa and i have noticed i have lost both the washers (forgive me dont know the correct termanology) on my aiwa px10...but also i need some for my 101...could sombody please supply me some?? or post an ebay link to what i need...

also i need the correct belt for the 101...thanks

transwave5000 - 2012-05-12 18:02

Them little plastic washers?

Might need to do a make your own washer thing.

radio.raheem - 2012-05-13 03:17

there metal washers son....realy thought i would of had more help than this by now with all the walkman pros on here

plop - 2012-05-13 10:18

I though they'd be the plastic retaining washers the type with the slit cut out of them. But if you are insisting they are made of metal, then what about using e-clips then?

radio.raheem - 2012-05-13 10:34

thats the ones plop there a full circle that you just clip on...what are they called???were can i get some...and how big would they need to be for an aiwa 101

plop - 2012-05-13 10:36

Good question. I am still looking for them myself.

radio.raheem - 2012-05-13 11:10

i know sombody that used to be in the trade....ill ask him tomorrow plop...they are metal..but there the ones with the slit in them....i checked ebay sure they have retention washers...but there is no slit in them.....i hope i can find some or i have 2 expensive paper weights....checked my other walkmans...and it apears sony diddn't use them on the models i have...anyway i'll report back tomorrow some time ok

radio.raheem - 2012-05-13 11:36

one last question plop...do you know what the diamiter of the capstan shaft is on the 101..or indeed most walkmans....i may get some of those e clips but i would rather order a quantity of the same size than lots im not going to need

deliverance - 2012-05-13 11:43

reno did your laptop come

plop - 2012-05-13 12:00

The mylar full circular cut washers are next to impossible to find. I just checked my PX101 and they are not metal. If they were metal, then they'd scratch the capstan as they are forced down the steel shaft.

The e-clips are easier to get hold of, and although metal would just slide across.

You need e-clips that can accommodate a groove diameter of 0.87mm on the capstan, with a thickness of 0.20mm.

radio.raheem - 2012-05-13 12:04

ey up cris...nada to the laptop son...according to the dilivery date...it should arive mon tue...i''ll give it till thursday son....then i may require a service.....it may come probbly will...it's just i have spent the last 3 weeks a prisoner in my home waiting for this bloody thing....just as well i don't work lad

tell ya this cris i can see it now...shit packing smashed in the post...or it will break just after i leave feedback...that always happens mate...just like this bloody walkman....im actually hiring a skip mate....im dumping all my none working radios...about 30 40....i have just had it up to my eyballs with other peoples rubbish

Really? Are these new or salvaged from previous walkman?

I could do with half a dozen of each size for the spares box.

radio.raheem - 2012-05-13 12:37

there on ebay plop hundreds of them

Salvaged from previous devices, do have some size new, but smaller ones are harder to find.

I do have some, pay shipping for them. How did you manage to lose these, they are hard to remove, unless they wern't their in the first place?

radio.raheem - 2012-05-13 15:57

they are hard to remove retrodus....my px10 obviously diddn't have the correct ones..as they cane off just through cleaning the capstan bar.with a cotton bud...the 101 they were on firm and were hard to remove..i was going to use them on my px10 but i lost them because im going blind..litrally....how many can you spair....also could you supply me a 101 belt....sure i dont mind paying shipping my friend

radio.raheem - 2012-05-14 19:34

Told you just pay the shipping and sent you two or three, just in case you lose one, as far as belts go Doc-P, running out of AIWA belt's myseft, as I have to order more soon.

If they were missing in the first place, then that the sellers problem, not yours, you can always put a claim in, as you have 45 days to do so, why would you take a £230 hit? Now if you pop them then out then, which is hard to do then it is your problem. Next time use SR-Audio THC-1, the best stuff you can buy, use this to clean reel to reel heads and pinch rollers and does not contain any damaging water like isopropyl rubbing alcohol and don't even have to use much force and clean better then anything I used in the pass, is alittle expensive for what it is, but well worth it.

Question is did the walkman work right in the first place and sounded good with no noticable wow and flutter, if it did had alot of wow and flutter, which I supect as you try cleaning the pinch rollers for a reason?  If so then that a good sign of a problem and would have returned it for the £230 spended. You still have to look at it as money spended, so don't let it go to waste, fixed it, or return it if you can. Don't think it will make a good paper weight, or door stop?

The correct size to that washer is a thickness of 0.25mm, 0.85mm on the diameter.

That is interesting... The dimensions I quote are from a number of AIWA service manuals.

You could be still right, but the washers came from a aiwa, but maybe different from model to model, but then again could be capstan size, which washer would have to be smaller to lock it. The again could be off a little, as these are the correct washers.

Probably more like manufacturing tolerance.
