justusjonas - 2013-04-14 16:59

hi there, i found an old tape player I used to use back in the 90s, which is the same one as this one:

index.php?board_oid=193392314111653483&content_oid=193392314111913677

but I cannot find the ac adapter or the gum stick battery charger or the attachable battery case... anyone know where i can buy the adapter or the attachable battery case? i looked on ebay but was unsuccessful - i am located in canada. thanks!

I don't know what you think you've found.

The OP wants an AIWA AC207U 2V battery charger and an AIWA PB-4 or PB-4S battery.

The AIWA AC-207U 2V charger turns up from time to time on ebay. Unfortunately the gumstick battery AIWA PB-4 is a sealed lead acid battery. These ceased production many years ago. Many that are for sale, are usually dead and cannot be revived. But you could be extremely lucky and manage to revive one.

Your best option is to find the optional 2xAA battery clip that would have fitted in the same place as the gumstick battery.

Being in Canada, she'd need the AC-207U or possibly the older AC-200U.

ETA : There's also the multivoltage adapters - AC-200H or AC-207H as well which covers 100 - 240V.

Thank you *plop* for clearing this up about the old 2-volt Aiwa's & providing proper part's numbers

Thanks everyone for your help!

Coocol- by any chance, your adapter isn't multi voltage, is it? If it's too much hassle to look for it, don't worry.. thanks in any case! In Canada it's 110v.

Hi, been looking through box and you are in luck as found an Aiwa transformer model number AC-200 but it is the 100v version. Don't think it makes any difference the 10V. Let me know if you want it?

so.. I found a PB-4 battery but it's most likely dead. If I do have the AC 2V adapter though, the unit will at least operate, right?  (although I will have to stay close to the wall outlet.. which would make it the opposite of portable.. but at least it would work I guess..)

Hi Coolcol - sent you a 'dialog' message (new here, not sure if that's the same as PM).

Thanks all!

Do you have access to a voltmeter or digital multimeter? If so, you could test to see what sort of voltage the PB-4 is still carrying. Anything over 0.5V and you might have a very slim chance of reviving it. Anything a lot less such as 0.01V or even reversed polarity, forget it, the battery is pretty much beyond conventional means of revival.

I have had limited success reviving a few PB-4 batteries, so when you get this charger, it may be possible to see if the voltage rises when you try to charge it. If it is not possible to apply a charge, then you will only be able to use the JX629 by the wall socket until an alternative battery can be found.

I have a spare 2v Aiwa adapter if you want it.
