Okay, now you got me going with the youtube link. Here's a short little video of my rolling project car. It's a 85 Chevrolet El Camino with the drivetrain from an 86 Buick Regal T-type - sme as Grand National. I haven't had the car on a dyno or the track yet. Time to wait for spring time now.

Man that looks like a lotta fun,I love muscle Big Grin Some nice rides on here..particularly impressed with the juiced Valiant up there wow Always wanted a 60s Charger but by the time I could consider buying one I just couldn't afford one with prices flying as they have in recent years...however I did manage to ship a ratty 68 Dart 270 over a few years ago, baby 318 but I loved it to death.unfortunately couldn't afford to do it justice so had to let it go to someone who could finish it nice.
Mostly into aircooled Vee Dubs but have had a couple of oddball motors too..

jt - 2010-12-14 18:34

Here's my vehicular project.

It's a 1985 190e 2.3 given to me by my cousin, who bought it as a project car and gave up. Getting the car cost me a couple of mix CDs. The car sat for at least 2 years that I know of. Big Grin

If the pics don't load properly for you to see, you can go to full gallery here: JT's Baby Benz project car

Before pic looks better here than it did in person, trust me...

Here it is $5000 later. Complete with REAL glass Euro headlights. I could have easily bought a really nice one needing hardly any work for considerably less, but where's the fun in that?

And while we were at it, I had the paint guy spray my GE to match it. Complete with clear coat!

isolator42 - 2010-12-15 06:01

An update from me...
My trusty V6 Mondeo never did quite make it to 300,000 miles. At 298,000 it failed the MOT in such spectacular fashion it was cheaper to buy another car, even at the cheap garage we use (multiple welding work, brakes, suspension, etc. - had probably been a death trap for months). Also, if I had the work done I'd still have a thirsty V6 motor, high insurance group (16 in old money), in a twelve year old car.
So, along with a new job for me (which has a 100+ miles daily round-trip to Wembley), I needed something cheap & non-nickable (Wembley is not what you'd call posh).

Enter the Ford Focus 1.6 LX.

£850 with a year's MOT. It's got Air-con & the ICE from my Mondeo dropped right in (stealth install). My right foot misses the Mondeo's cruise control, but beggars can't be choosers. My little blue Focus has lots of dents & scrapes, so it won't get nicked & I'm not worried in rush-hour traffic on the Hanger Lane gyratory.
I've done 12,000 miles in it already (in 3-4 months) & were talking almost 50mpg. It's on a low insurance group (5 in old money) & a new tyre costs £35 all in. We are talking properly cheap, here.

Times are hard, people, no fast fun for me...

That said, the mk1 Focus is a hoot to drive - such good handling from a regular hatchback.

im.out.of.hear - 2010-12-15 09:11

I dont Drive,Never Really Been Interested..but This is My Bro's Car..

And i had one of these in the 80s..when i was 18,beautiful,but leathal..

Sometimes I wish I lived in a country where we didn't have to worry so much about car fuel costs.
UK are paying the equivalent of £7.28 per US gallon for unleaded right now.
You're payuing around US$3, right?

Nice! Is that an LS1 T/A? What color is that? Don't see many around anymore especially in that condition.

Dave

claret.badger - 2011-11-15 12:03

I was in my mates car once and we were racing a non GTR Skyline and whooped his arse in the corners and left him for dust.

"So what?" you might ask - but my mates car was a 1.3 polo g40

i have never laughed nor shit myself so much

davelc2 - 2011-11-15 13:33

This was by far the most fun I've had on 4 wheels. It's the one that got away. I had to get rid of this due to circumstance. It's a 2006 Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution MR with the SE package. The first owner added about $5,000 worth of stealth mods. One day I will own another...

davelc2 - 2011-11-15 13:58

I bought my 1st used 03 Evo over a new WRX wagon. I like the Subbies too but the rear leg room is horific. I actually test drove a 02 WRX a couple of weeks back just for the heck of it. I'd still take another Evo over it.

erniejade - 2011-11-15 14:12

Dave that is what it is  lol.  the color maroon or sandalwood red  i have also heard it called.   under 100 on the ragtop made for the year 20000 in that color.   not too many of the ragtops for the trans am ls1 made for some reason.  I guess the hardtop or T top was the bigger seller.    I've had it for 4 years now and it has 83,000 on it.  The person i got it from said it has never seen snow and by the paint i believe it especially out here and how much salt they use on the roads.  Its much faster then my old 72 cutlass  lol.

I miss your evo also!   You had some great pics of places you went with that car on the site!

davelc2 - 2011-11-19 19:02

That's cool man! Does it have the 6spd or the auto? I love those LS motors. There's a ton of potential to make lots of power. They take a beating and ask for more. I remember in the Camaro's if it was a ragtop they got a 110mph speedo instead of the 150mph speedo that the hard tops or t-top cars got. Also it was possible to get a Z28 with the 110mph if it wasn't factory ordered with Z-Rated tires.

I miss the Evo's a lot but I will not have one for a primary car as the maint. is a deal killer. My first Evo needed a clutch, tires AND brakes all at the same time (30k miles) That was like $2,000 or something crazy like that. I bought the 1st one at 17k miles and sold it at 80k miles. In the 63k miles I had put 3 sets of tires at $600-$700 each time. I also had the 60k mile service which includes a timing belt, water pump and balance shaft. My 2nd Evo also had 17k miles but I traded it for my current car at 35k miles. I got off with one set of tires. When I get another I will pay the money for a lower mile one that has all matching vin stickers and it will be a weekend only car. Love the car, hate the up keep.

My current daily driver which is a Galant Ralliart only had 7,500 miles on it (47,500 miles now) and the only thing I've done other than regualar maint. is a set of tires. I did have one warranty issue that left me standed before a big weekend trip. I had to go to the airport late one night and rent a Ford Fusion lol Not a bad car either btw.

Dave

davelc2 - 2011-11-19 19:12

Actually I am not sure if I've posted a pic of my current driver. It's a 2008 Mitsubishi Galant Ralliart with 258hp/258tq from the factory as opposed to the 230hp from the Galant GTS with the regular 3.8L V6. My wife had a 05 Galant with a 160hp 4 banger and I hated it as it couldn't get out of it's own way! It goes pretty good but it's no Evo by any means. I was surprised to see that it's supposed to run high 14's in the 1/4 mi which is decent for a larger fwd car. Here's a pic from the dealer after my tensionor was replaced under warranty. I also had the lady that tinted my other 2 cars tint the windows while it was in there.

Last project car my son and I restore cars now and then.  Started out a rusted out disaster had to put in new floors, running boards, dog legs, lower front 1/4 panels and rear deck under hatch.  My son is certified welder thankfully and also painted the car and is a certified auto mechanic used to work for Audi.

1972 Datsun ( now Nissan) 240 Z the original first Japanese sports car.  Boy I loved driving this car just sold it 2 years ago had it for 2 years.  Took 4 month to restore.  Mechanically it was perfect.  Engine rebuilt had .......drum roll..... 201,000 miles on it when we sold it !!!  I was driving car when odometer rolled over 199,999 to 200,000 yes the car had 6 digits not typical 5 that American Cars have.
