That sucks - bigtime!! - do you think the comcast boxes might have a camera in them? That's what I have..

What possible excuse could they have for installing a camera and a microphone?

yeah unfortunately in this day in age you cant even feel secure in the comfort of your own home....

im thinking myself to save on cable to go OTA permanently i even built this homemade antenna i saw on youtube and getting many channels for free...very cool and better than an amplified antenna...check it out...

Are we sure this is real and not some kind of joke or hoax? Has any of us opened a box and found a working camera?

Advertizers are installing cameras inside on those big screens in Times Square their excuse is:

To see how many are viewing their products!

Get this they also have a data base where they can identify the viewer!

The guy with that Magnavox may have a law suit.

i dont know i think this is kind of to be expected.
i mean there are places in the world where there is internet service provided through the televsion set. i think this device is intentional made to be used for that purpose if it is available in the area it is sold in.
i mean laptops come with a web cam built into them. no one complains about that.
i honestly think there is little or no difference between the two devices if they are being used to surf the net then it having a cam inside of it makes perfect sense.
using a cam to keep tails on someone inside there home is of course perverse and wrong,but lets not forget that there is already camera attached to most of your computers that in theory could be used to do the same thing.
i am also pretty sure these cable boxes are also meant to be used with other voip services such as skype and others.
many televsions are being sold now with skype capability in other parts of the world.
theres nothing to really be afraid of here.
if you are willingly using your televsion for video chat thats your choice to do so.
i mean face recognition software is one thing and so is covert intelligence gathering.
lets really face reality here tho.
this device is still something you would have to choose to use in your home.

yeah i kind of think it is more interesting how a video someone makes and puts online is taken so seriously.
i mean i really dont see any way a device could be put in anybodies house to tranmit video out without the owners permission to do so.

this intrusion is also violates the interstate commercial fair trade act--
