I remember maybe a year or so ago, a member posted a thread called "Not just boomboxes", or something like that. I can't find it. I've done numerous searches and can't find the thread. He was showing his collection of old mobile phones, and the page contained images of large display cabinets full of old brick mobiles. I have about 11 old mobile phones, I just like them. Can anyone remember the thread, and maybe direct me to it? I'd like to look at it again. Thanks.
Maybe it is deleted?
that would be me then ! the photo is a couple of years old and i'm sad to say that they are all boxed away in the attic since we moved house.
there was a time when i would use a different phone every week but as many modern phones don't store numbers on the sim card, it became a pain in the backside copying them back and forward.
my favourite is probably the Nokia 8110i (top row, middle) with the sliding front cover - it is totally mint in its original box ! top cool !
Thanks *TPR*!!
Here are the 16 models I have collected so far, gm.
Panasonic EB G350 (1996)
Ericsson GA628 (1998)
Nokia 5110 (1999)
Nokia 5130 (1999)
Nokia 5146 (1999)
Motorola M3788 (2000)
Motorola M3788e (2000)
Motorola Colorado (2000)
Ericsson A1018S (2000)
Nokia 3210 (2000)
Nokia 3310 (2001?)
Nokia 3510i (2002?)
Trium 110 (2003)
Nokia 5140 (2004)
Motorola V220 (2004?)
..and I'm currently using this. Nokia 5070 (2007).
Man that's funny.
The mobile I'm still using everyday is a Nokia 3510i - it's bomb-proof...

It's a nice phone. There's no camera, but I like the colour screen. The vibrating system is good too. It feels unlike any other I've come across. I like how you can see the little 'vibrating things' spinning inside the phone when it's vibrating. The orange light-up sides are nice too. It's one of my favourites.
some cool looking phones there ! i love the old nokia phones, they were just so easy to use, erricson and especially motorola took an age to catch on to their user friendly menus.
and of course, the game SNAKE was brilliant - whoever decided to put that on the nokia 5110 must have made them a fortune. i'm going to go up into the attic tomorrow to find them !
the sony erricson K800i that i'm currently using is a great piece of kit but lacks any 'charm' or 'personality' - rather like modern iPod dock stereos !
it just occurred to me that the very first mobile that i owned is not in my collection (i traded it in) the Erricson GA318e.
It was pretty basic, the battery had to be detached from the phone for charging and the vibrate function was a seperate unit clipped on to the bottom.
It only received sms messages (this didn't bother me - what's the point in text messages i thought !) but i loved it anyway. I'll need to keep an eye on the ebay and see if one turns up.
btw. the picture at the top of the page is not a fancy display cabinet (i wish) - it's an ikea coffee table photographed from above !
