ye ol' egg vs. conion thingy

enskanker - 2008-02-28 09:50

Gbad...thats it! I always thought conions looked best bouncing down the street...like PF's old avatar.

JC...melted ears but tears in your eyes, tears of mellifluous joy, from the sound of the angels, the angels of the panasonic techs who designed the surround circuits.

peter.griffin - 2008-02-28 09:56

My DT75 doesn't have the surround, but that is one thing I notice about the egg. It really FILLS the living room with sound.

- 2008-02-28 09:58

In all seriousness, those Panasonics sound REALLY REALLY good, especially inside the house. I have a friend who has 4 different models and they have amazing sound. As a collector...i just can't add one of these in my collection...i just can't. I'm the kind of guy that:

"if it doesn't look good, i don't want it" . For me it's all about the styling Big Grin

Indeed UE, I too have shed tears just thinking about this...such divine inspiration guides these Panasonic techs. I would work for this company for free...just so I could be near them!

...as a collector, I can't get enough of 'em! I love my square bbxs too, but Panasonic's "wedge" has the (wait for it) edge! Big Grin

Some Conions don't look good going down the street.

Yo enskanker that's a "Jeff Spicoli" from "fast times at ridgemount high" look-a-like...notice he has a purse most likely filled with some ccccccccccchronic Laugh Out Loud

Now if someone would photo-chop an "EGG" on his shoulder it wouldn't be a pretty site Big Grin

Bottom line is - eggs are SOFT and easily breakable...bricks on the other hand are MEANT to last and built STRONG...and it's been proven that they are no matter how you look at it Wink

...and so the debate rolls on! Now which side was which? Oh yeah, square-brick conion thingy on the left, vs. sleek, sophisticated all-powerful yet articulate and sensuous "pana-egg" on the right! Big Grin Laugh Out Loud

peter.griffin - 2008-02-28 12:47

I have to admit, since I got the egg 2 weeks ago, my "bricks" have been getting jealousSmile I haven't been playing with them as muchWink

There's no debate needed...it's clear to see:

The "devil" on the left (Hard Conion Brick) is known as 1 bad-@zz M@therf@cker...

And the "angel" on the right (Soft Panasonic Egg)...no need to say anything more...and i won't simply out of respect for the "religious" members here Wink

At the end of the day, it's what YOU and ONLY YOU choose as a preference...i know what i like, and i know what i want to collect...i'll tell anyone here reading this it sure as hell isn't "eggs" that look like the front end of the cheesy looking "newer" BMW's that you will see in my collection...that i can guarantee Cool

I'm out..........PEACE!!!

-gsbadbmr

joe.cool - 2008-02-28 14:04

Um, gsbadbmr...did I miss something? This was all a joke, (at least I thought it was) but if somehow you've misinterpreted that aspect, I apologise. C'mon man, if this was a serious discussion, do you really think I'd enlist the likes of Kronk here? Big Grin Just to clear things up...my collection consists of two "Pana-eggs", and approximately 77 "bricks". 'Nuff said...

- 2008-02-28 14:14

Nah man i'm just playing...however i am going to stick and MEAN what i posted above Joe Laugh Out Loud

Not only do i dislike boombox eggs, i hate REAL eggs and don't eat em'.

I just got to thinking, maybe i will buy an "egg" and do some artwork on it...afterall Easter is just around the corner and maybe an S2G easter "egg" is in order Laugh Out Loud

With the battle still ragin' between these two completely styled, different era of portable devices....I still have to say I like the Panasonic DT-707 ONLY because of build quality! I cannot stress enough that Panasonic ruled the "boombox era" from the late 1970's thru the mid-1990's, from designs, features, sound representation, to my favorite: build quality! Panasonic still cared about electronics in the early-mid 1990's while almost all other manufacturers were starting the major spiral down to what we have now...which is crap! I bet my DT-707 has a better substantial feel to it and it's controls compared to the Conion. I never heard a Conion, touched one, but remember seeing them around in the early 80's, impressive they are, but Conion will never compete against the almighty giant Panasonic, nuff said.

What battle? You could compare other boxes to the Clairtone/Conion forever and it would not even amount to a decent fist fight because the Conion stands alone... Big Grin

I tell you what, one day when you accidentally drop your egg off the counter top and see if it still works properly...Conions are TANKS and well built...better than the majority...if anybody on this site or anywhere else in the world should know it's ME... WinkI don't talk sh@t unless i KNOW...and i KNOW. I've probably done more "physical" abuse testing on BBX's than anybody else here...i know what i'm talking about.

One of my friends collects ONLY Panasonics...i brought over 1 of my Conions and blew away all 6 of his Panasonics Laugh Out Loud

If i were to hit a Panasonic "egg" with one of my Conions the Panasonic "egg" would be severely damaged...you have to handle those eggs almost like newborn babies because they are fragile...ESPECIALLY compared to a C-100.

I'm sure PF will lock this thread soon Laugh Out Loud

redbenjoe - 2008-02-28 16:50

hey gordie -- im back --and i was enjoying this thread -- mostly because these 2 boxes are so completely different -
and because we members are just as different --
which definitely make for a fun hobby and a great read --

hey beast --what exactly do you mean when you say "the conion stands alone" ??

--- because , to me , EVERY good sounding and well designed box STANDS ALONE

redbenjoe - 2008-02-28 19:52

btw -- i surely did not mean to insult any c100f fans , as i am one also--LOVE that big sucka

and in case you guys like to hear the news -- REAL LOUD --the conions your guy

but on the remote chance that you may ever try listening to any MUSIC --the panny egg DT707 sounds much more thrilling and 'more better'

I don't think you've insulted anyone here...and it appears to me that the Conion isn't all that well liked here on S2G anyways Laugh Out Loud, that's what i'm here for, to defend and represent them Laugh Out Loud ...and i will challenge anybody, anytime with ANY NON modified/stock BBX/Egg...ANYTHING... to do the old "Radio Raheem" battle out on the streets with me...i've blown away everything in my path and never put my Conion past half volume. Kabooms, M90's, 777's (yet to hear a GF-1000), J-1 Jumbos, all of the Panasonics that my friend owns and ALL other boxes in my collection and nothing comes close to the Conion...and i mean nothing. Let me just inform everyone one here that NOT all Conions are equally as loud...i have 3 of my 13 Conions that are just INSANELY powerfull...and stronger than the other ones in my collection.

redben, you do what most people DON'T do...you test and do comparisons and often ASK other members about comparisons between boxes...which IMO is good Big Grin. You like to know what's what and what's available out there on the market that may appeal to you Cool . You're not afraid to buy an "egg" and that's great...just don't expect me anytime soon to get one Wink

If i wanted a nice sounding boombox to listen to at night time without blowing my head off...i would bust out my MINT Telefunken CC-9000...and as a matter of fact it has such incredible sound i have my turntables and mixer hooked up to 24/7 and it gets used now on a daily basis. Anyone here that owns this model Telefunken knows how nice it sounds and knows what i'm talking about. If yours doesn't sound good then it's in desperate need of repair Laugh Out Loud

g-nite!

Once you can accept the universe as matter expanding into nothing that is something, than loving the Panasonic RX-DT Bi-Amp eggs is easy.

As Ernest Dowson wrote:

They are not long, the days of wine and roses:

Our path emerges for a while, then closes

Within a dream.

well - nice try gordy --but my conion(S) sound exactly like all the very best conions in the hood -- and need no repair --

all they need is some AM talk show -- to sound good !

redbenjoe - 2008-02-29 05:49

and , oldskool --when you finally get your funken to thump --you will wish it did more than thump !!

....and thats from a member who is trying to sell a great one to you guys

peter.griffin - 2008-02-29 05:52

what we need to do is have a "conference", and everyone bring their "grails", and we have a sound-offSmile

You cannot judge the sound of these eggs by their looks. It's like those ipod docks by Bose. They look so small and crappy, but the sound from them is amazing. Same thing for these eggs. I don't know how they get so much bass from such small speakers, and it's bass you can feel pounding through your bodySmile

peter.griffin - 2008-02-29 05:57

I have the telefunken csr8000? a smaller 1 piece. and man that thing does thump, and it's loud as hell, but after 5-6 volume level, it just distorts.

redbenjoe - 2008-02-29 05:57

right --about the egg
and THATS from a member with an M90 avitar !

mafiagato - 2008-02-29 06:21

Big Grin the cobra one is nice, about how sound the eggs compared whit the bricks, no idea, i dont have any egg, can't comment, my vote is from my eyes, is more than a boombox the c-100, culture hiphopera!! thats the reason why i love they

Big Grin burning burning

- 2008-02-29 06:24

You guys are still talking about eggs Big Grin

Eggs are fine...if you're happy taking your eggs outside, and walking around in the streets with your eggs that's also fine!

If you want to collect, and try and stack these eggs that's also fine and i myself have no problem with people who have chosen to do this...Is this maybe an S2G member in the pic below? Laugh Out Loud
