Exist in america different waste collections?
We seperate for example:
Glass, plastic, paper, electronics, wood, metal, dangerous things, ....

And the trucks have an other system.
They are not cubic like that in the film, they are round inside. There is a giant snail, which shredder and compresse the wase. Patented "RotoPressSystem"!

In New York City we have two types of refuse collection trucks. The typical one you seen in that video is what is refered to as a "rear loader" truck. They normally do house to house collection for regular trash. They take bulk items such as discarded couches, beds, also. So you have regular trash (food, junk stuff, etc etc.) and bulk items go into that truck.

Then we also have recycling trucks. A Dual Spilt Loader. One side for glass, metals, plastics. The other side is for paper. They are also loaded from the rear of the truck.

And to date, I have found gems on my route. I found a Lasonic TRC-975, a Sharp GF-777, Panasonic RX-300 (was handed to me by some old man who was discarding it-sold to a member), an Awia 770 (sold to another member)and a Sony CF-580.

Technically we arent allowed to take home anything we find. NYC law states that if its placed out curbside for garbage collection, its NYC property. We are currently having problems with people taking copper, aluminum and other valuable metals of discarded air conditioners and such that the recycling centers we are contracted with are complaining about not getting there fair share of the valuable metals. Basically they have a DSNY Enforcement Division trying to catch people who are steealing thse valuables. These big money contracts with the recycling centers are basically riding on the success of this program.

well i guess it happens over here but not as bad i have found stuff and taken home but its not something you see everyday..now i have seen in the dump how even there when the truck has something from lets say homedepot man even the loader driver gets out to see whats coming out of the container so to speak..me up to now i have only found a couple of laptops still working and have given them away dinasours but still works

Petey whats the average pay, I know back in the 90's it was about 20 or 20 plus an hour. Thats one thing I miss about New York the pay.

I was racking $19.80 an hour as a Porter Supervisor in Manhattan.

Then again the cost of living right now is nuts over there. But one thing even at $19.80 and living single it is tuff with the current rent.

I was always a littlebit angry, when a dumper stands on my tramtrack and blocks me.
But we also have a short timetable...

The current top pay rate is $67,141. Or $32 an hour. We get 5 weeks vacation. We get NewYears Day, MLK Jr., Presidents day, Memorial, July 4th, Labor, Veterens, Columbus, Election, Thanksgiving, Xmas off. Double time if we are to work or regularly scheduled day off. When working behind the truck, we have a productivity clause that pays us an extra $50 a day. Double time for Sundays (Snow, Security details - making sure trucks arent being vandalised, Corner basket routes). Time and a half for Holidays. (Again Snow, Security details - making sure trucks arent being vandalised, Corner basket routes). We are in charge of plowing streets in snowstorms. Those are automatically 12 hours days. With 12 hours off. Then 12 hours on again.

This is all not including Longivity pay after completeing your 5th year. Then completeing your 10th year.

Its a great job. However we brave the elements and maniac drivers. Also..I can retire after 20 yrs of service. So I'll be 46 when i hang up the boots. Then i move to Amsterdam and figure out how to open a Marijuana Coffee Shop. (Rumor has it is still illegal to grow pot out there but legal to sell it. So where are they getting the supply to sell you ask?? Black market I would believe.)

and I do not like it, every 5 bins one does drop
on the ground spilling all over the street

When I retire from my job, I plan to open up a "Ciga-Weed" shop over there too. I'll just bring all my confiscated Kyrgyzstani herb with me.

If marijuana were taxed and legalized, drug use would actually decline. The proof is in countries with tolerated laws for "soft core" drugs. IF taxed, we wouldnt have to bail out the banks of America with a bail out plan. The US economy is faulty as it is. Watch Zeitgesit: Addendum and you will see. Its unfortunate that because of Federal Laws pertaining to CDL licenced drivers, I can't do as I want with my own body. I'm randomly drug tested. I can understand they dont want you high at work and all, but it my personal freedom when i get home as to what I want to do to my own body.

Floyd, I spend all day on my routes just scoping out garbage for speakers, radios, stereos, laptops, cassettes, etc etc etc. Unbelievable is what it is. I'm really bent now.

Pharmaceutical companies are making far worst drugs that even Lawyers aka: "Ambulance chasers" have been advertizing numerous T.V. commercials on certain ones that have caused death. Amsterdam has a better system they tolerate it and this documentary "American Drug War" actually filmed Amsterdam just to prove how it is tolerated. Amsterdams crime rate is low they have clinics for the hard core ones. Amsterdam people are not doing drive by shooting, theres no drug war going on over there and they don't spend millions from taxpayers on building hundres of jails. They are a productive country with no intent to harm anyone, their streets are clean and the people are normal.

i dont really get that chance unless they put it on top of the can like the mac notebook i found the other day was right on top of everything you could see it had to stop and there it was

Ford, American Drug War was a good movie. It trys to show how we have been brain washed into supporting this never ending war on narcotics. Reguation and health care for the blown addicted is the only way to go. I love how they use Amsterdam specifically (there or a few other 'tolerated' countries out there too).

Drugs are proven to be extremely profitable. For the better part of a decade, a San Francisco Bay Area drug ring sold tons of cocaine to the Crips and Bloods street gangs of Los Angeles and funneled millions in drug profits to an arm of the contra guerrillas of Nicaragua run by the Central Intelligence Agency. Commonly known as the C.I.A. Yes our own government.

So bottom line unless you wanna rid communism and illegally fund arming gurrillas, drug will never be legalized in the U.S.

Good point Jimski. With all the unfortunate layoffs nation wide already, one would do well in providing for their loved ones and still work toward a proper retirement.

one of my best friends drives a garbage truck and one thing he said was there will always be trash so there will always be a job and that means job security so i think its a great job except for the work part cos i know its hard .
