getting a lot of these for cheap lately.
the sansui is really really in extremely mint shape. there is a very very light scratch on the finish of the solid wood case just the finish should be easy to buff out with some minwax polyshades.
anyways it just sounds absolutely wonderful. warm loud as hell. i mean its also really heavy. i just love it its almost as nice sounding as my big monster in the bedroom. i have pictures of that one else where. build quality is just superb.
the sanyo yes sanyo is also a really really nice amp too bad i dented it on the moudling on the way home. i could have threw up when i did that. i wont go into the details of that i cannot here as i would have to use words banned by the filter here.
that little sanyo there gives the sansui a real run for the money too. its not quite as warm sounding but for its size its a amazingly good 50wpc reciever.
the sansui i have looked in the manual is rated at 100 wpc through 4ohm speakers. i am going to see if i can find some in the next few weeks. i am really glad to have them both.
in case your wondering 40 bones for the sansui and 20 for the sanyo.
and yeah the sanyo looks gorgeous with the lights off so does the sansui.
a couple lights out on the sanyo but i dont care for now. i will bring that one back to its former glory as well as take off the modling i dented on the sanyo and roll that dent out as good as i can.

they are really nice both of them are fabulous allthough i wont lie i do like the old sansui alot. its no where near the brute force of the huge sta2000 i have but its really really nice.

I am on my second 5000x and would buy a third in a heartbeat. The first I inherited from my dad. I consider myself a bit of an expert on these so here's what I recommend.

Slide the chassis out from the cabinet and check the amp board. If you have the F-1040-A boards and it's still working, be mindful of driving it hard. There is a black resitor (looks like a square box) on the top of the board. These were notorious for failure allowing runaway current and sometimes starting a fire. There was a recall on this for the late 5000, 5000a, and early production 5000x.

If you have the F-6013 amp boards you are in great shape. You may also have one that was retrofitted.

I just re-lamped mine and polished up the cabinets. Currently setup with my Pioneer PL-516 DD turntable, Pioneer CT-F900 cassette deck and hooked up to my Sansui SP-5500x speakers.

The 5000x has a warm tube like sound. It was often compared to the McIntosh's of it's era (69-72) thus nicknamed "Poor Man's Mac" and was Sansui's best selling top end reciever model ever.

hey man. i hear you loud and clear on the bad board thing. allready been in there and had a peak i have the good board so do not worry. i caught wind of that right after i got home and began the hunting of the what and where of this amp.i dont have any lamps kicking around to relamp this puppy or i would do it in a heart beat.
i do love it and man is it ever like a old tube amp isnt it.
i am very impressed with the build of this beast. its just so nice.

the pioneer i had was also nice before it packed it in. i really love most all old stereo stuff.

sansui tho this amp and my small but gorgeously nice au555a are for sure two really nice pieces of kit.

I've said it once, I've said it a thousand times...Don't sleep on Sansui. They were the cream of the crop for sure in their heyday.

By the way the lamps you'll need are as follows:

11 - 6.3v .250ma Bayonet type bulbs.
1 - 6v .60ma screw type for the "FM Stereo" indicator. Don't use a much higher milliamp rating or you may toast the multiplex circuit.
1- 5v wheatgrain bulb for the tuner needle.

The 5000x is easy peasy to service.

The SP-5500x are better IMHO but the SP-7500x big brothers aren't bad.

Freddie has failed to mention that I am responsible for him having the SP-5500X speakers. And... I also have 1st dibs.

The Sansui SP-5500X are unbelievable speakers. Even when pushed by my old Technics receiver, I was hearing things that even my Sennheiser headphones weren't producing. I still can't believe I let Freddie take them from me.

i mean i think that this reciever is really special and i have only spent a couple hours listening to it.
now i am very curious about where this sansui could have been put together.
there is something about the sound of it that is just so nice.
i have heard tube amps that didnt sound as nice as this sansui.

my amps got 012060500 for a serial number. i am guessing that must mean it was made later in the run. any ideas.

awesome. thanks man heheheh i am very happy to report the sansui has been put through her paces over the course of the day. ranging from a old school classic rock session right up to a roots ska and dancehall reggae session finishing it off with some ultra dark synthetic blackness from germany..
so yes it is amazingly nice sounding. even through those little genesis ones i can tell this beast can pump the bass.
now hands down its amazing blowing aways the marantz i have and also the harmon kardon 330c which is no slouch of a reciever,just not in the same league tho the sansui does really have more detail.
now for the shocker the realistic sta2000 is right there with. many would find this hard to believe but it truly is hard to choose one from the other in terms of sound quality.
this being said tho the sansui does have more features in terms of bells and whistles. both have four gang tuner,but the sansui has far better reception and am reception on the sansui is really outstanding. excellent signal to noise.
so i may pull the sta out of the bedroom and put the sansui up in there. i have some old old advent like speakers in there that i am sure it would sound nice thought too. so yeah its really cool.
i havent poked around to look at the lights yet but i am curious the bayonett light for it are they just twist into the socket or do they need to be soldered into place.
i didnt really look at much inside other than the amp board which i was delighted to see wasnt the bad one.
and yes my friend i am so glad you know about this amp beacause i absolutely abhor the audio karma people.
i found it ironic my one and only time over there how i brushed shoulders with someone there that used to frequent here.
it was absolutley stunning to see how his true pompous colours showed in all thier glory.

this is a very excellent find for me. i know i could make a little cash off of it. i mean it really is close to perfect except for the lights and a tiny serial number engraved on it by the former elderly owner.
how can i tell he is elderly or perhaps no longer with us is the number engraved is his social insurance number and judging from the number he has got to be in his nineties if he is still alive.
alot of these old recievers went to people that didnt use them very much maybe at christmas thanksgiving ect.
so yeah i am so glad i rescued this one from the floor of the thrift store where i can pretty much promise if i had not got it when i did that the face would have been scratched to hell.
the other thing with it was they didnt want to sell it cuz it had no price tag. i had to really battle with them in there. i mean i would have paid seventy bucks for it.when i told the clerk that it was in her best interest to sell it to me for forty dollars she jumped at it. i was glad to haul it out of there for that price.

oh on a side note. i almost totally had forgotten how amazing the little sansui au555 intergrated i have is.
its about half the power of the 5000x but i will say this.
it really is a lovely little intergrated.
the thing i really have noticed with the sansui stuff i have found is the pots even after sitting for a long long time uncleaned are still noise free. is it just design.
i mean yeah all about the sansui for now.
dont worry tho i still love the boomboxes.

Just remember, if you see a black Sansui CP-7, it belongs to ME!

you know i dont think anyone sold sansui up here in vancouver when they were out.
same as lasonic and a few other makers.
toronto tho is another story. here in vancouver we always were so far behind getting things here that other parts of the country would have no problem getting.

If my memory serves me right I remember at a house party back in 1978 the DJ which was a friend of mine used these at the party.

No joke as I left the party you could still hear them three blocks away. Well then again at 3'0 clock in the morning you could just hear about anything. But these babies pumped like hell!

yes it is. but its changing so much now man i mean there is still some amazing things in the city. vancouver still has some awesome parks and beaches plus the mountains.
those were good years for the canucks.
i will never forget the year we almost got the cup.
when they got into the final i remember walking up the street to go to the store.
the pay phones literally were ringing off the hook and if you picked one up people were going totally insane.
yeah canucks are kinda sucking again they have for a while now.

Well, then your Sansui won't be the only thing with a warm tube like way playing at your house!

AudioKarma is a great place for help on this kind of old gear... the guys there are not above a little dumpster diving for an old gem. There are about 50 times as many people on that board at any given moment and they have alot of knowledge... however it is very easy to get lost in the shuffle and posts quickly disappear into oblivion. It is best to hang back, gather info through searching and PM people who you know have the knowledge you seek.

Watch out... this old gear can get pretty addictive.

yeah i hear you on the addictive part of things. i already have over a dozen recievers in the middle room. two in the front room and several class a intergrateds kicking around here.
yeah dont like the audio karma site. i usually just buy the stuff plug it in and if it works enjoy it.
still tho nothing is addictive as vintage synths and electronic music gear.
