@redben: What type of Yachtboy you are searching for. You remember the guy from him i bought the big PIONEER and sold my GRUNDIG Oceanboy?
He owns nearly thousand radio.

i was not really hoping to get one of these --

but it strikes me as funny -- that a real established first class outfit like Grundig -

could ever offer these great quality $$ expensive radios -- without a traditional worthy tradename

Ocean Boy

Music Boy
Mini-Boy
Prima Boy
City Boy
Beat Boy (walkman)
Luxus Boy

and the Grundig Boy (1949)

well --i think these grundigs 'have to' be extra good - to rise above those non-elegant names-

just my humble opinion

Wow..... that Grundig Boy has got to be rare. Grundig was a very popular brand all over Europe in the 20th century.

well i must say that the grundig 210 i have was a very nice radio in its day in fact still by many considered the best portable radio ever made.
now i know that it may be hard for some to fathom or understand how a small little fifteen pound radio could sound so good. after all its mono and its not super loud.
it is tho the best sounding radio i have ever owned stereo or otherwise. i suppose considering the price of nearly six hundred 1969 dollars
is just a huge ammount for a radio.
however these older grundigs are really something else.
i mean once again i will say that there is not a huge amount of volume.
however reception and fidelity of the sound which comes from them is absolutely fabulous.
mine is not a yacht boy however i do have a yb235 here as well come to think of it.
i will also say this. when i am out and about now. i keep my fingers crossed for another 210 moreso than even a grail boombox.
i would love to have this radio in the wood grain as well.

it does have a line in. once again the reception on this radio blows any portable radio i have ever seen out of the water. it really is that damn good.
sound wise its very warm like a tube radio and also extremely detailed for such a small speaker. i think the wooden cabinet helps the sound.
when you look inside the radio the way it is laid out and the complexity of it is just too much to fathom.
so many moving parts. the short wave selector is on a drum like a old tv tuner.
on top of that there is a clever clutch system that engages the tuning dial for different bands.
so many moving parts and so much which could have failed over this radios near forty year life span. yet this is working almost perfectly. there is a slight play in the shortwaves tuning drum but not so much that it does not work properly.
i should take it in to have it serviced. i have had some extremely attractive offers on this radio but i refused to sell it.
i know that a radio of this quality would not ever be available again.
after doing a ton of research on this radio and spending many hours with it.i can say beyond any shadow of a doubt. that it really is a amazing piece of radio history and design.
so yes. they really are nice.
extra good is the fact i have cleaned it a little since this photo. but it was already in very nice condition.
these often sell for over six hundred dollars from a used radio dealer.
i think if this was stolen i may pay that much for another mint one.
thats saying a lot considering how cheap i am .

In Austria the "...-Boy" series is very well known. Most of them became collectible.

yes that one up top in the middle i would love to have now. some of the telefunken from the same era is also superb.that one indeed looks like the consumer model of my radio.
these radios were of such high quality they were used on ships.
the shortwave reception is on par if not superior in many ways to the modern shortwave radios.
so yeah some people may not believe it or want to believe it,however these mono proto boomboxes really have a amazing sound . i mean really superb warm and just lush.
very much like a tube radio. the reception on the am band is also just over the top. i recently picked up louisiana with my radio.
that is a impossible for me to figure out how a forty year old old tech radio could pull in a station several thousand miles aways. portland la on am.
fm reception is almost as good as cable. i mean i can pick up dozens of stations with it i cannot get with other radios.
i have a nice home made wire antenna. i took a wooden pole and wrapped several hundred feet of wiere around it. then let some of it trail outside a bit. when this is hooked up the shortwave can pick up so much i cannot get with any other shortwave radio.
it truly is a sight inside one of these. the windings of the tunning string is just astounding. sometimes i fear that it will break and no one will be able to fix the string. i really tho to see the thought and engineering inside here is just too much. all the inards come out on a big metal chassis. there is provisions for it to be bolted down onboard a ship. i can imagine this radio being used by the rich when it was new. i mean this is a radio that only the rich could afford.
so enough about the glory of it.
however if you are out and about and pass up one of the early grundigs without giving it a thought. you are doing your ears a great injustice.
mine has a couple lights out. but for a radio that has never been serviced and has been used it really is amazingly well preserved.
best five dollars spent ever.
best radio i own. including any of the boomboxes. really nice stuff.
