So I sold my Evo on Friday...(Pics inside)

davelc2 - 2008-07-28 13:41

Here's the 2003 Evo VIII that I sold on Friday Morning. I bought it in June of 05' with just 17k miles and when I sold it I had just over 80k miles. The car has been wonderful. I had a great time using it as my daily driver.

Later that evening I purchased this 2006 Evo IX MR SE with just over 17k miles on it. It actually had about 100 miles more than my 2003 when I bought it back in 2005. I really love these cars and I couldn't think of anything else to replace it with except for a newer one Cool I really don't care for the 2008 Evo X that much. They are growing on me but I like the older style better. The first owner put about $3,500 worth of aftermarket parts on the car. The average person wouldn't even notice the parts. These pics were taken late Fri night. Enjoy Cool

Going back two or three weeks back the local dealer that I ended up selling my car to let me take this 2006 Evo IX MR w/21k miles home for 24hrs. I ended up not getting it as it was too flashy for me. I don't needa dvd and nav in the car. People will smash the window and steal it around here. This car had about $12k worth of extras including aftermarket cams, turbo, suspension, wheels ($3.5k alone) DVD stereo w/Nav & more Eek Not for me. The go fast goodies were cool though.

well you sold a wonderful evo to get an even more beautiful evo!!

As already said in the "What cars.."-thread i think that the EVO is the most fascinating car from asia in performance and looks.

Your new one simply looks great and seems to have some power too Smile

It's getting harder to afford this kind of machinery in germany with all them crazy taxes and fees on cars, security and gas.

A pity, cause this would be a car i'd buy in a rush!

Last but not least the most important question around here:

"How does it sound?" Big Grin

Well done Dave!

davelc2 - 2008-07-28 13:57

It is quieter than my last one but there is a nice mellow tone. The revs come up so fast before it's time to grab the next gear. The MR has a 6spd instead of the 5spd so I guess they are a little shorter. If you shift around 4 grad it puts you right back in the torque sweet spot. I'll have to see about making a little video.

Very nice Dave! I liked you old Evo a lot,but I really like you new Evo better. It looks like it has a lot more add on stuff which is a great deal for you. I like the the one you bought better than the silver one too. Nod Yes Big Grin

My son would go nuts! He love EVO's. Especially after seeing Fast & The Furious. The are great cars. Have you diven the Subaru WRX? They are scary! Big Grin

matrixambience - 2008-07-28 14:58

V8 cars are better.

fatdog - 2008-07-28 15:50

I was actually going to buy a brand new 05' Blue WRX Wagon but I passed because because of the lack of legroom in the backseat and I really did want an Evo. I test drove the WRX first and loved the way the car handled and drove. I walked straight over to the Mitsubishi
dealer and test drove a used 03' Evo and a brand new 05' Evo RS. I was blown away with the way the Evo's drove. I ended up with the black 03' months later.

The only other car I would consider other than an Evo for a newer car would've been a 6.0 Liter Pontiac GTO w/6spd or a Cadillac CTS-V but those have problems and they're still too expensive. Actually I would've considered a 03-04 SVT Cobra but most of the one's in my area are beat up now. There really is nothing like an Evo. It's the razor sharp steering, superior braking and the feeling of boost kicking in is what keeps me in one. They are an absolute blast to drive.

I am talking about the older musclecars, not new ones....and I don't believe in 4 cylinders and turbos and intercoolers....those little hamster engines will eventually separate. Nothing like rawbone V8 power!

Yeah I was kind of like you until I experienced the Buick Grand National and then I was hooked on turbo cars ever since. Out of 5 turbo cars I only blew up one engine and that sucked Frown My first turbo car is what I blew up and it already had 117k miles on it when I bought it. I had the fuel pressure too low for the boost I was running and ran real lean and melted a piston.

My favorite turbo car of all time is the Dodge Omni GLH Turbo...then the GNX!

OMG! I once had a red 1985 GLH turbo with the 2.2L engine. Man, that thing would scoot too. On a short run, I beat a Mustang 5.0! Cool I'd love to find another one or maybe the 1987 Dodge Daytona Shelby Z Turbo.

My Omni looked just like this one:

I thought I had first dibs on the 06 D... Mad

That 07 is very cool man, guess I gotta get back out to Cali for a ride in her, preferably up some steeps in the city... Wink

DaveLC2 i see at one time u had a regal,(door panels in the garage)

retro.addict - 2008-07-30 10:53

That's a nice car you sold Dave, but it's replacement is very flashy! The shiny black paint is lovely, and the BBS wheels suit the car really well. The back bumper is very nice, and gives the car a definate 'racing car' theme. Cool The big bore exhaust is cool too! Nod Yes

Good eye Cool The door panels came from my late 86 Regal T-type that was stolen and recovered totaled about 7 or 8yrs ago now. Here's what the car used to look like Mad

The power plant will live on in my 85 El Camino that I hope to have running before the end of summer Big Grin

I had a silver 1986 Omni GLH,"non turbo" God I loved that car!!! Big Grin But if you wanted a fast Omni, you need the ultimate ,the GLHS. 175hp turbo intercooled, and there were only 500 built.I drove one of these when they were new and they are QUICK!!!! Originally posted by Fatdog:

I really liked those cars. Pretty neat little ride. I used to want a Spirit R/T for a while.

One the car mags - Sport Compact Car if I am not mistaken did a story about swapping the 2.0L 4g63 motor in one of these. They are very light and really scoot with this combo.

Here's a video of one with cams and a bigger turbo.

I had to swing by my boss' to drop off his camera he forgot at work and his driveway was a bit steep. Here's my car in "tripod mode" Big Grin Evo's are very rigid. My 1st one would've done the same thing. When I do my oil changes and jack the front of the car up it totally lifts the back tire up straight off of the ground. It freaked me out the first time it happend Cool

Dave

jimski - 2008-07-30 17:19

dave which was faster the t type or the evo

matrixambience - 2008-07-30 17:46

I am not doubting you that the Evo is a solid car (for a uni-body car), but I do believe the Evo's have no suspension travel, and that is a major reason for why your car does that on articulated pavement like it does....great for handling, but not a good ride. Open all four of your doors and see what happens then.....hope you can close them again. Smile I am just ribbin' you guy...nice car. I love my '70 Nova SS way better though Wink
