so i collect other stuff as well as boomboxes. stereo recievers are one of them. today i got this beast. i am so glad people here around town hate realistic branded items. this reciever was made by foster and it is huge and sounds fabulous. the guy i bought it from was a medical equipment technician. this beast was hard to take home. it was a hour and a half on the transit system here and it wieght is forty nine pounds. so anyways if you ever come across one of these and wonder it could be any good. trust me it sure is.foster electronics put this together in the late seventies. foster later became fostex. the tuner on this is really wonderful. it has a really nice warm tubby sound. just super awesome to get it for 50 bucks. i mean i cannot say enough about this beast. realistic i hope remains maligned as i am going to look for another one of these.
nice going , bill --
it looks like new
two more shots.

thanks ira. yeah most of the ones i get are pretty much like new. this one is over the top tho. i mean it has been cleaned inside and out and gone over to the extreme. i am so impressed with how it sounds. i have had some big recievers in the last year i have bought and sold. pioneer and sansui. they were both fabulous too. this one is as good as both of them. i mean i cannot turn it up all the ways it is just so loud but when it gets to about fifty watts a side it really is impressive.
at a hundred per side i am sure things would be falling off the walls. its just amazing to find this and even more amazing that people think realistic is junk.
sometimes it was the was not one of those times. it even has a four gang tuner wich sounds just awesome.
bill --many of us are snobs about realistic and sears box brands --so , they often sell for short change --
but the realistic scr-8 and the sears 2199 are way up there in output quality with every good brand
yes i have to admit i was a snob about the name realistic as well until the last twenty four hour time frame. i am just smitten about this piece of gear. i still cannot understand what happened to radio shack. how did they go from this to where they ended up at. i dont even think rat shack exists here any more. i also got a wonderful a class jvc integratted amp this week for only tweny bucks. it too sounds very good but this thing just burys it. there is just no comparing the two. this thing for sure could run against the big names. in fact i think this is better than the big pioneer i sold this year. it was also a hundred watts and had been recapped. its just so bassy and nice man. i listened to some blues on it tonite and wow. just incredible how good it sounded.
i better turn it down soon before my landlord grows tired of it.
ok -- you just mentioned my electronics snob brand !!
if -- i had seen those cool blue lights on a pioneer piece -- i might have paid double the realistic price --even though it may not have been 1/2 as good
my big pioneer i sold did have the blue lights. it went for close to six hundred bucks and the guy thought he was stealing it from me. i had to pay some money to have it recapped but it was a good sale for me.i have a really nice marantz with blue lights but its only a thirty watter. sounds awesome tho. i do love those blue faced recievers. they do look fabulous. i have really begun to shine towards vintage recievers and amps lately. i have been lucky with them.
i have some really nice looking ones.
i have lots more in here.
a favorite feature to me -- is a headphone volume control -- few receivers have it --
my pioneer 9100 (or 9500 -- forget)
tuner does --
it makes for some accurate reception
too bad pioneer didnt do the blue thing with this.
i dont mind tho i think its gorgeous just like this. no other boombox i have is in as good shape as this. even the new kaboom. this one is just over the top in terms of the shape its in i mean its almost scary.

i dont know why that didnt make it onto more tuners. i mean it makes sense to have a seperate circuit for that.
i find it funny that with all this audio gear i have in this house i havent spent as much as some guys spend on a new system. i know that most of the guys who come over are pretty jealous. they dont understand how my twenty dollar stereo sounds better than there thousand dollar stereos.

That Looks Really Nice Bill,I have a few nice Tuners,My Marantz, and My Fisher are my Two Favs,This realistic U found Looks Minty,Congrats!
thanks man. yeah its just super clean and the only thing i can find wrong on it is the aux 1 indicator dosent light up. i am ok with that.
the guy i bought it off of did a really nice job of cleaning this. next i will get me a tube amp. i have some nice speakers here it would work well with.
i have to say this realistic is really impressive.
now you need a pair of these to match your realistic receiver:
REALISTIC
MACH ONE
STEREO SPEAKERS
CAT. 40-4024A
#2106 / 1170
CIRCA 1975-81
yeah man. i am all over that. i have gone so far to even track down a pair for sixty bucks i am going to look at today.
currently i have them hooked up to some really nice old speakers that were made here in the early seventies.
and they crank. i do want the mach ones tho allthough i am pretty happy with the nice big cts woofers and phenolic tweets i am using right now.
the mach ones are wicked. i am sure they would hurt if i wasnt careful.
@billpc: Lovel electronics.
For hifi-collectors real grails i would say.
The PIONEER boomer is a beauty.
I would like to have mine in such pretty condition. And the unit above the cassette looks more oldscoollike than my digiwatch.
Congrats!
do you like my digiwatch. good enough for james bond good enough for me. yes its from 1970 something. ike new even tho i have been wearing it lots. this sold for the same price as a rolex submariner back then. first one with a alarm i believe. it is the seiko a-159 and i love it. sorry bout the crap photo.
it is a amazingly accurate watch.
Hey billpc, i love those old watches.
I own a lot of them.
They are sold at fleas for a few lousy euros.
Nearly the same i got for 2euros, still working with few scratches.
The TIMEX above i wear every day.
The 2 CASIO in the right i bought a few weeks ago in our electronic store in the 16.district.
New old stocked, brandnew packed and 2years warranty! For a clock of the 80´s!
A few plastic ones too.
The LEVIS right was my first one, new bought at 1982! The PIRATRON and the SPORTSMATE are nice too:
At least a few mechanical.
I love the special ones of VESPA and LAMBRETTA!:
To post all here would explode this thread.
Also the LED calculators, Digiclocks and much more 80´s electronics....
they are very cool. i really like them i mean we have no gotten to a point where things are sold to be used and chucked out in a couple of weeks.
these watches are awesome my friend.
i always wear my eighties watch when i am playing my eighties synths.
theres lots of other synths around here but those are the only ones i have handy pictures of.
i also have a original waldorf micro. the first waldorf synth. its very cool too.
You are playing keyboard?
Great!
I also tried it in the mid-80s.
Anywhere i must have an small one BONTEMPI, one of the first "homeorchestras" that were sold in austria.
Looking like this:
But your´s still cool!
oh yes i am playing keyboards. even making vinyl records with them and playing them in front of people.
i have been ivolved in electronic music for a decade now and despite starting very late in life i have been pretty successful. getting to make vinyl records in this century is something i am very proud of. i am even more proud of the fact someone thought i was good enough to pay for those to be made and even managed to sell them. i also have been able to tour around the us a bit and canada too so that was pretty cool. i had one of those little bontempis i still have a pretty good collection of casio synths. i dont use them too much tho.
my jupiter and juno are two of my favorites.
i have been lucky to be a part of some very cool bands and to have worked with some people who are very talented. some of my peers went on to bigger things. i have always been into music and electronics. i am really looking forward to going back into the studio this coming spring and recording some new music. i have already made some very nice synthpop albums. some really fun electro punk records too.
soon i will move aways fromt he current lofi electro stuff i have been doing and work on a new direction.
sort of like the velvet underground with electronics .
Bill, that Marantz 2215 is a true classic and tough as nails!
Any of your "electro punk" posted online, like myspace?
yeah man i really love that little 15 wpc amp a lot. i mean its only 15 wpc but they are fantastic watts. very warm. the big realistic is a lot more watts. i havent had any of the bigger marantz amps yet so i cannot compare them. my 2215 tho is for sure a piece of art. i love the font of the lettering on that series of marantz.
i have to say i really am enjoying collecting these old recievers. the lil harmon kardon is great as well 35 wpc and a heck of a lot of bass for such a small reciever.
that add is so cool. thanks for digging through the vaults for that man.
i did this for a while too until my bandmate turned out to be a complete jerk

Nice, i like keyboard playing.
I wish i could do it better.
A friend of me went 2month ago to New York to build a own music group.
I wish him good luck!
With 22years going to an other continent is quiet difficoult.
To the theme of the thread.
I own an nice GRUNDIG receiver too.
This was real quality made, i love it.
Sorry the bad pic:
Nice Bill, you've put out a lot of product. Listened to A Luna Red. AND, added you as a friend to "the gones", my Denver outfit.
We're hoping to complete a 10" colored vinyl and do a short midwest tour next summer, after I complete my master's degree...
i put out a ton of other stuff too over the years man. i dont know if anyone is maintaining the alunared myspace anymore. my old band mate moved aways to the uk and i think he has been a bit negligent in its maintenence.

Sorry the bad pic:
that grundig is gorgeous
Here a better pic of it.
It sounds very pretty!
The station presets shows the frequency at a pointer like a VU-meter! The tunoscope with 3LEDs also nice.
I got this beauty for 20euros at the flea, many years ago.
My one and only homestereo - and i love it.
