The S2G website was down for several hours tonight, at least for me. I thought the unthinkable had happened!
Is there a contigency plan for when Paul decides to no longer support the site? I'd be willing to host it for free.
Back up plans are always a good idea, just in case.
We often take for granted that sites will always be around or available, but it just takes one server to get fried and it's like the end of the world. Although I'm new, I do love this place and I'd hate to lose my new second home.
I did notice!
I was thinking it was my stupid laptop's fault again ( happy I did not throw this silly vista thing out of the window
)

yep me too! Glad it's" back on the air!
I was composing an incredibly long PM at the time.Glad I saved it on a word document. In the old days, people like us would communicate by regular mail. Then one would have to wait days or weeks for a reply. The youngest here probably don't remember. Are we addicted to the internet or is it just a necessary part of our lives in the 21st century?I'd say both.
about gone ....
asking if anybody can help find the funny thread from about a year ago --it was to discus the value of s2g vs. our collections --
in particular -- i think it offered a theoretical trade for a FREE NIB M90 --and it was for keeps - but - to get it -- a member had to forever sacrifice his/her s2g access
one post/reply was
".....well, it was nice knowing you guys..."
anyhow -- much thanks for whoever can re-post this cool thread.
I have just uncurled from the fetal position, sweating profusely! Thank goodness it's here! Hey Jens, Bobby has a great idea. Whaddaya think? Backups are great and there is a lot of history to be saved.
thanks for finding that thread, fatdog --
a year later --its still interesting
if hosting is ever needed, PM me, I have 50+ gigs and huge bw allotments.

It's good to know that there are folks willing to help out should it ever become necessary. I think there is a little bit of overreaction to what happened. Sites go down from time to time, for a few different reasons. *If* Paul were to want to relieve himself of the financial responsibility for the site, I am quite certain that he wouldn't just allow the plug to be pulled with no notice or attempts to transfer the site into another responsible persons hands first.
I have concerns about the host that is used for the site, but absolutely none regarding the current ownership of the site. It's in good hands.
Thanks PF!
By the way, my new woodie came today! Complete with "hood ornament!"
