98.7 Kiss Mastermix 1986

ahardb0dy - 2008-10-28 20:34

I uploaded one side of this tape, it is virus free, check it out,I have plenty more. For those who may not know 98.7 kiss out of NY used to ( not sure if they still exist or not), have 3 hour "mastermixes" on friday nights by popular DJ's like red alert, etc. The tapes I have were all recorded by me between 1985 and the late 80's.

Nice, Kurtis Blow, Dana Dane, Mantronix, classics!
But the illest song is the one that starts @ 23 min. Who is that cold crush?
If you got more please let me know.
Peace,
Paul Z.

fatdog - 2008-10-29 07:05

That would be Mantronix "Hardcore Hip-Hop". Warlock Records bought a lot of the old Fresh Records library and re-released them on CD. You can still buy the first Mantronix album at CDUniverse.

Reminds me back then hangin' out in 103rd. St. park in Queens New York City smokin' and just having a freakin great time!!

Bring that beat back!

Long live the late 70's & 80's!

ahardb0dy - 2008-10-29 12:52

your welcome, I do have more, As of right now I have transferred 10 tapes to my laptop, 712 MB worth and I still have about 30 tapes to go thru still. Just wanted to share a sample of what I have. FD, I have a few from 85, some of the tapes have the date some don't so there harder to tell the year, unless the DJ says something like "kickin it live in 85", I don't know what year most of the songs came out to tell you what year the unmarked tapes are from. Also all the tapes are left un-disturbed the way they were recorded off the radio, commercials, weather, etc. I think even the commercials are a good part of that time and bring back memories on their own. Alos have 1 tape from hot 97 and heard one that had a WBLS DJ.

ahardb0dy - 2008-10-29 12:55

oh, those TDK MA-r tapes that look so nice, I knew I had a bunch of them, they were in a seperate cassette case, that held 10 of the previously mentioned tapes. Imagine finding that case in a thrift store somewhere! Good tapes classic jams!

fatdog - 2008-10-29 13:01

Holy crap! You found your old case of 10 MA-Rs? Eek I'll buy one off of ya for $10. Big Grin Nod Yes

ahardb0dy - 2008-10-29 13:34

no, they're not all MA-R's, about 5 of them were, there was alos 2 Nakamichi tapes and the rest were Maxell's

"If you know how many boomboxes you have, then you don't have enough."

I fit that category huh?

ahardb0dy - 2008-10-29 19:28

kid.sensation - 2008-10-30 09:37

wow!!very good quality for such old tapes!

thanks for sharing!!those mixes are great! And it's always a pleasure to listen to mixtapes instead of changing the LP's and maxis all the time Smile

One question tough, what's the song played on side-1 on the 85-mix right after RUN DMC at about 11:20.It's played nearly full lenght from about 15:50 min.

fatdog - 2008-10-30 09:44

That would be Nu Shooz with "I Can't Wait."

Check your PM, Felix. Wink

kid.sensation - 2008-10-30 09:46

ahardb0dy - 2008-10-31 19:42

in the other thread you said you met Grandmaster Flash on Long Island, where was that?

The other Day I found Biz Markie on My Space and e-mailed him to see if he remembered me from HS, he replied he did but didn't say anything else. Not in any way that Biz can compare to Flash just wanted to mention it.

thafuzz - 2008-10-31 20:50

Thanks Tony. Great music mixes. I love how strong the recordings are. They really push my woofers like HipHop should. I used the mixes to dust off the woofers on ALL my boxes today Wink

ahardb0dy - 2008-10-31 21:01

your welcome, more to come

I recorded all of them on my Aiwa adf990u home deck, but I used a JVC that a guy at work gave me, my Aiwa is down right now needing belts, I'm curious if they will sound any better on the deck that they were recorded on.

Fatdog you seem very knowledgeable got one for you, name that tune:

"I was driving down the road on a stormy night, up ahead there was a terrible site, a big fine b***h she was crossing the street she had a box with the disco beat"

I may not have that right word for word

gluecifer - 2008-11-01 02:01

Anyone got the mad skills to do a track listing for the mixes?

I'm especially interested in the name of the track that comes after LL Cool J's Rock The Bells at 17:47 on "98.7 kiss master mix 1986 2.mp3".

I've been in LOVE with that drum track since Liam Howlett used it on a Dj comp I heard in the late 90s.

Anyway, a nice job if someone would like to step up.

Rock On.

That book signing was at Book Revue in Huntington, Long Island. It was this past summer.

Funny Biz Markie story. Back in like the later 90's...people I knew used to book Biz for rave parties in NYC. He'd have a main stage set for like an hour. Well this one particular night i see Biz walking thru the crowd and I was so drunk I decided to jump on his back and give him noogies. He was just loving it. The people in the crowd were all up on him showing love and here i come and i decided to mount his back and grind my knuckles into his head. This same night Biz stops Dj'ing and bring out Keith Murray on stage to do some freestyles. The Biz did a beatbox with the mic on the top of his skull. UNBELIVEABLE!!!!

Nobody does beat the Biz. Nobody.

driptip - 2008-11-01 13:26

wow thats 80's classics man, thanks.

ahardb0dy - 2008-11-02 00:49

biz was out of control in HS, I'd see him walking down the street, I'd have my 880 (that I still have) and he would come running up yelling "I got a tape", and than he would comendeer (spelled wrong??), my aiwa to play his tape, between that and his green suede sneakers or the shiny patent leather looking sneakers he was a rip.

ahardb0dy - 2008-11-02 20:13

little Tone loc "funky cold medina" on the 80's channel as I type
