Let me introduce myself

sega - 2011-07-20 11:30

I couldnt find a introductions thread so I thought Id start one to say hello.

My forum tag generally tends to be Sega as Im a life long fan of their games and its games that funniley enough brought me to this website as somone posted a link to it on the retro gamer forum.

I got a touch of nostalgia when I was round a friends house sorting out a hifi for an audio bodge (still on going with a sub that makes the floor shake on low dispite being only small), it reminded me of the boombox my parents gave me when I was very young, I cant remember it that clearly but it was big silver and the regular old rectangular shape but I loved it until it broke one day and my parents threw it out, much to my annoyance now as I proberly could have fixed it. After that I got a 90s style alba single tape deck one with an alarm clock and thats now long gone too.

I dont have a boombox currently, closest thing to it is a Pirates of the Caribean dead mans chest which only runs off mains power but if I see one I can afford and like the look of Ill proberly buy it.

Ive had my share of walkmans too, Ive never had much money so they were often cheap versions, atm I have a chinese one somwhere with intergrated clock and radio with a speaker and a Coke can one that I need to fix.

So thats my story, I may not join in conversations much as Im fairly new to the more technical understanding of the old boom boxs but I must say Ive seen some excellent examples so far and only just learnt that you could get record playing boom boxes.

sega - 2011-07-20 13:21

Thanks

sega - 2011-07-20 13:48

Just been going through the sites photos and ebay UK and Ive seen 2 boomboxes that look familiar, one was a sharp and the other a Sanyo, the sanyo very much so and it would tie in with my dads other audio gear of the time, my parents had a sanyo stereo and TV from before I was born and the boombox was old when it was given to me, I must have been about 5 or 6 and that was mid nineties.

Welcome to the forum Sega!

ghettoman - 2011-07-20 15:38

seeeeeeegaaaaaaa  (beginning of sonic)

I have a sega mega drive emulator, and about 200 games, also have a snes emulator with 200 games,i installed them on my psp, sometimes have a play when i'm bored,The Duel-Test drive II is my fave,or Mr Nuts..both brilliant games..also have a playstation 1 emulator for the Pc and about 250 games..classic gaming is good..

But the best console and game for me is The Panasonic 3DO and Need For Speed..

radio.raheem - 2011-07-20 16:34

welcome aboard man...i also like the classic games.....sonic the hedgehog is one my all time faves from years ago, along with many others...but i concentrate on new games mainly now...just one spec of my pc is that it has 4 graphics cards installed...like i said im a gaming freak (not verry good at them tho) mind you i did complete sonic way back when...as you will find out and no doubt already have,,were all boombox nuts here...

sega - 2011-07-21 02:54

Thanks guys

I dont emulate much as I have a lot of the original hardware in full working order apart from my 2600 woodgrain and NES (NES works but it has the typical fault atm).

My favorite console was my first one, which I still have and that is the Sega Saturn, I have many fond memories of drifting a rally car through bends (sega rally), pulling massive hit combos (SF alpha) and racing through the sonic games (Sonic Jam).

I believe there is also a hybrid of a MD and Boombox isnt there?

andyboombox - 2011-07-21 02:59

yo sega, andy from west yorks here-good to have ya aboard!

ghettoman - 2011-07-21 03:51

i remember blasting sega rally on the saturn in the 90s,that was a top console,i bought a dreamcast, but the lazer went on it,so i bought another, and the lazer went on that,i actually bought 4 and the lazer went on all of them, the lazer were very poor quality..but the sega saturn was a very underated game system,i was bought an atari 2600 wood grain version for christmas in 1978,well me and my brothers had to share it because it was soo expensive,it was £299,in 1978 that was a Huge amount of money back then ! i bought an american version imported super nes in 1993,i loved the look of it with the square look console and purple buttons,i bought a 24mb super wild card game copier for it,that cost me £250 in the early 90s,ha ha then last year i bought another same 24mb wild card for £2 from a boot market,it did'nt work though,i also bought a Panasonic 3DO in 1994 for £299,and bought need for speed and road rash,i bought it because i used to go the "Game" store in manchester arndale, they had a massive screen in there with need for speed demo,at that time the graphics was Jaw Dropping, there was'nt a console like it at the time, the playstation 1 was just hurd of,but they were £499 and you could only buy them from adverts in game console magaizines, but when i saw the 3DO i just had to have one..just a shame they never caught on..they were a beautifull looking well made console, built like a tank..they will be a classic of the future !!

sega - 2011-07-21 06:41

I agree theres a reliability issue with the dreamcasts, I reckon its down to lack of money at the time.

Ive never played on a 3DO, Ive only read about them and quite liked the license Idea with them so you had a choice of system styles to choose from.

Thanks for the replys guys.

Hi Sega,

Glad you found us.  Feel free to participate or lurk, scan the old discussions and learn whatever you can.  Plenty of information here, all you need to make a smart decision when selecting the right classic stereo portable...

sega - 2011-07-21 07:16

Ive found the information here very useful already and Ive learnt things like features I didnt know you could get on a boombox.

With my budget Ill proberly be needing help when I find a stereo as I cant imagine its going to be in that wonderful of a state, Im pretty sure my old friend was a Sanyo looking at pictures Ive seen so hopefully it will be one of those that I will find.

fraser.dow - 2011-07-24 16:04

Hey Sega, your a man after my own heart, retro gaming FTW! You must be quite young though if your first was a Saturn, I'm only 23 and mine was a Megadrive 2 Still got it hooked up to the hd tv, lol. I only just got my first boombox there's a few on ebay.co.uk though not as many as I'd like but there are deals out there. I bagged a clean Fisher PH W702K for £25 with delivery today and I'm sure you'll find even better deals out there the longer you look

P.S You checked out Peir Solar for the megadrive? 64meg cartridge and modern gameplay Plus it was only released last year

sega - 2011-07-28 03:43

I turn 21 monday, the saturn wasnt the first one I played though, a friend down the road with quite well off realitives got a Master system 2 and then a MD2 on which we would play through SoR for hours.

I got a MD1 a few years back but I dont tend to spend much on games for it so I tend to stay away from new realeses, If I see it used though and going cheap Ill give it a go.
