Cassette Tape Statue

We had some frequent flyer miles saved so we visited Hong Kong and China recently. Not too many classic stereos unfortunately, but we spotted this fellow in front of a fancy department store called Lane Crawford. A very crafty artist made this entirely of cassette parts!

Which Lane Crawford was that at?
Did you go to Apliu Street flea market in Hong Kong? Quality and quantity of second hand stuff does vary there on a daily basis though.

Nice sculpture.
There is a club near my work in London that when you go into the toilet, the walls are made up of audiotapes.

This was the Lane Crawford at the Pacific Place mall.
I did make it to Apliu Street--the old electronic gear was unbelievable. Saw guys on the street doing soldering work on mobile phones, lots of old testing equipment, tubes, scopes, etc. I spotted a few early '90s middle-of-the-road walkmans but no boomboxes.

Yup know the LC there quite well. Did you go past the one in Times Square with the fancy circular escalator too?
I went to that very McDonalds in your photo to wash my hands after handling some of the gear on display there. Some of the second hand stuff looked like it was fished out of garbage bins. Didn't see many collectible walkman, those that I did see were in very bad scratched up condition. Plenty of NOS egg shell mid 90s crap from China and stacks of personal CD players though.
The shops surrounding the market stalls on the same street have people selling some nice looking second hand hifi separates.

Wow that image takes me back to when in was in Causeway Bay Hong Kong in November.
I was walking through an electrical store listening to my Sony WM-DC2 and using the Etymotic ER-4S, when one of the sales assistance gestured to me. I thought he was trying to sell me something, I just waved back saying no but he kept pointing at my side. He wanted to see the DC2 and he remembered he’s brother use to have one. He asked to listen to it and took pictures of it. I was surprised he knew what it was.
Hong Kong great place to pickup electrical goods, as long as you can get back in the country without UK customs nabbing you for import duty.
