the event took place in Selinunte (from σέλινον = parsley) Sicily, close to the ancient town of Megara Hyblea. It's the very heart of Magna Graecia, by the way. the Temple of Selinunte, or rather its remains, was the biggest temple ever built by the Greeks.

but the 1977 event was not, imo, a forerunner of the rave partys of the 80s. "Discomare" was a much quieter event, more like a summertime Sanremo, the music festival. Compared to the Discomare, Woodstock or the Isle of White have more chances to belong in the prehistory of raves --despite pacifism and so on.
