lav.loo - 2013-03-15 03:56

the seventies and eighties were just a blip in time, but out of the whole of eternity we lived that moment, how fortunate.

Teletext was a text based service you can get with your TV, so you can look up TV listings / some news etc. Below is a sample of what it looked like.

Ceefax was only switched of late last year.

I remember that and I think that was good also January sales were actually in January.

I love it when I goto Munich and the shops are closed on Sundays, brings back the old times for me. When my friend comes over to England from Munich, she loves the fact that the shops are open on a Sunday.

The shoks need replacing!, plus all the mathching gummy's or how you call them in English , plus the gummy's from the rear axle plus the front brakes!!

He also told me the gummy's what are on the car now are still the factory ones!

lav.loo - 2013-03-15 06:30

what i miss most about the 80s is the way the women looked, big hair and big t**s to match it's hard to tell what a real woman is these days, think their a dying breed

i was quite surprised the first time i went in a 24 hr shop in London years ago,now they are everywhere,it used to be the all night garage on the way home from a club in those days

toocool4 - 2013-03-15 07:36

If you guys like the above clip, then you must check out this 3-part documentary that was on from BBC a while back called Electric Dreams (not the film).

Basically they took a family and put them in the 70’s then 80’s then 90’s, they can only use the tech from that era. It will bring back memories for most of you.

If you like to see them below are links to them on Youtube in the correct other, each program is about an hour long.

1970's

1980's

1990's

Watch the rest if you can, great documentary.

isolator42 - 2013-03-15 09:09

Nice one TC, always like a bit of retro.

Time-tunnel on Heart FM (London) this morning was 1985... loved every damn song

& that Electric Dreams show was required viewing for me.

Somewhere in that YouTube clip is a Teletext screenshot of the Top 40 (pop charts) from Dec 16 1980. Would you just look at it: almost every song a corker.

I remember so well, living & breathing the Top 40 singles. Nearly every week brought new & exciting music. Hell, it's why I wanted needed a boombox.

Music was everything, everything.

Smash Hits magazine was utterly compulsory (see http://likepunkneverhappened.blogspot.co.uk/), as was a walkman tucked in your bag at school.

IMHO, the Top 40 today is a woeful shadow of it's former years.

I guess kids have so much more vying for their attention &also  it's just possible that at 43 years old, I'm too old to be in tune with alot of today's popular music.

Possibly...

soundboy - 2013-03-15 09:54

love that !

walkgirl - 2013-03-15 09:54

Well, I watched the electric dreams 1980s documentary!, and I have to say, those parents are them biggest idiots I have ever seen!, at first the television!, that idiot acted as he never seen a normal tv before , that panthead maybe is not aware that flat tv's are about for most peopelst afford  like 4 or 5 years!!, and the years before that and even before he was born just plain tube tv's where the norm!!

And then his reaction to the sony tps-l2!, what a fool!! , it is probably the best sounding portable he ever held in his bony hands ,(except for those cheap headphones the 'vintage specialists' provided )

And even about the stereo stack, like he never did see one before!!, I think he is about 40 to 45 years of age?, where did he hide all those years?, under the local rock?

and a whole lot of poop is that mother and daughter!!, Ooooh a new polaroid!, the daughter puls the picture from the camera and starts to wave it for it to develop!, a kid that age never in a 100 years could have know that!!

as kool as those 80s documentaries are, I still think it is a load of poop!

they should do an 1880s version give them something to really moan about

toocool4 - 2013-03-15 10:58

Just watched the 1970’s Electric Dreams again, when Adam went into work and had to work on a Commodore Pet. Wow I learned to program on a Commodore Pet. Wow simple pleasures.

Hey Lav Loo wow looking at the Smash Hits, all those artist of years gone by the ones I like on the cover are Adam Ant and  Wham!. Did any one notice the name Neil Tennant (of Pet Shop Boys) at the bottom of the page?

isolator42 - 2013-03-15 11:12

Neil Tennant worked as an editor for Smash Hits before the PSBs. It was thru working for Smash hits that he got started with PSBs.

Here's the page from Smash Hits in 1982 where Neil Tennant interviews Marc Almond from Soft Cell:

Most awesome video ever...I remember every single item, that's basically my youth in picture form...awesome!

toocool4 - 2013-03-16 10:36

It’s been raining most of the day here in the south of England, so stayed in and watch those Electric Dreams documentary very very interesting. Also for the boys or those who enjoyed computers and programming in the 80, I watched Micro Men which is really telling the story of British computer industry in the 80’s.

The battle between Sinclair and Acorn, Acorn is still going now and the are better known as ARM. You now have ARM chips in most mobile phones, portable hand held games , TV’s etc

Micro Men on YouTube
