What is it that makes America rubbish? We fund so many other countries and are in debt because of it. The only reason America can be rubbish is due to the fact that we have a shit president and we keep our noses up every other country's asses but honestly I take offense to the post title America being rubbish. I've never really seen a can of beans over $2 here. Where are you located? The gas prices, I agree, are absolutely insane, $4 for a gallon of gas? THAT is complete rubbish!

actually most US food is full of bad for you rubbish and should be avoided at all costs

HFCS, MSG, Gelatine and saturated fats are really terrible things

Luckily Heinz has just released SIMPLY HEINZ ketchup - without HFCS - but it's still much sweeter than the UK version

yeah i think it is cheap, very cheap! its more than half the amount we pay for fuel in uk and europe.

I'm only saying gas prices based on my experience. Gas used to only be about $2 a gallon. I find that a lot of American food is, yes, filled with preservatives and all that nasty stuff, but I only buy the fresher stuff that I can get my hands on. Europe is very conscious of its environment, which may explain the gas prices, also, many places in Europe are urban as opposed to rural. I live in a very rural part of the US and I have to drive every day to get to where I need, because it's not close enough to walk. The nearest gas station is about 10 miles away from where I live. 

I cant speak for other countries but in the UK its the TAX that the goverment puts on the fuel that makes it so expensive. I think its around 50/60%??.

Oh, and we pay road tax on top of that but thats another story

Americans have experienced insane inflation on their "gas" prices in the last  10 years - so they have a right to moan

the distance between cities and size of their surrounding countryside for example and the size of their engines is reason enough for them to have cheap "gas" - heck, it'd take me 6 hours in 3 directions of the compass to get out of this here state!

NY is a 20 hour drive

please remember to adjust calculations for the smaller US gallon (3.8L as opposed to a full fat UK gallon of 4.5l)

I'm positive european autos get way better fuel mileage than American cars. That should equate to a more even price on fuel costs, overall? Just recently, American cars are now required better fuel mileage, than previous. 30mpg is more common than the 12-19mpg in the 70s-90s. My $.02
