i was given this by rich a while ago the tuner would not lock on frequency and the deck was dead .   anyway after looking at the service manual and following that the tuner came back on all bands .   the deck was troublesome as a result of a missing leaf switch sorted that out stripped the deck motor down cleaned and oiled alls good .   cleaned the case inside out . these do sound good plenty of highs but no lows so i took the speakers out and replaced them with better ones doing that changed the sound its a lot better .        then to finish it replaced some tatty trim a big thanks to andy for that .       it now works perfect i love it its no big hitter but its well made and sounds far better than it ever did         just to add its a general vst-8000

Yes, I did... It sounds better with new speakers.... But how good does it sound? It looks awesome, but to what does it compare? D8614? Gf-9494? M70? Just checking if it's something for my list haha, never seen a box like this.....

Best closest sounding would be the JVC RC-M70 imho

D8614 is Loud but no bass compared to the General VST-8000

Sharp GF-9494 is under powered just like the GF-9000, both look great but not so terrific of sound. 

Get a RC-M70 First as they are common and the best bang for your money
