I had a bad feeling that this might happen. That's why I initially posted that I'm new here and I also stated that the forum was the absolute easiest I have ever had to navigate. I followed that by writing that I would keep my fingers crossed in hopes that the site change would not make things worse and in hopes that it would be an improvement.
Now, I have never felt more detached from other members, the site itself, and even my own posts, due to the recent change. As a result, I won't be spending anywhere *near* the amount of time hanging out, chatting, or browsing posts. Possibly not at all. It's simply way too cumbersome for me. IMO, the former version was fine.
I’m still trying to find out where everything is, so it’s a case of getting used to the new layout.
I remember on option on orkut which allowed users to choose between the 'standard' version of the site and the upgraded one. I wonder if that would be possible thus keeping everyone happy and allowing people to get accustomed to the change at their own comfortable pace...
Well, i have 2 issues mainly:
The lack of the topic title of the latest post on the main page of each section.
And most of all, the typography. It's difficult to read, and I know why: It's the letter spacing or tracking: Each letter is spaced WAAAAY too far apart, making posts difficult to read. This HAS to be addressed. Kerning between some letters is also off: look at these sets of 3 letters: "eps" and "kny".
Typography 101: ensure it is easily readable. This I feel ruins the whole thing. Notice how much more difficult this paragraph is to read than normal?
Quite the step back, I'd say in terms of usability, but much more modern looking.
It's the same with anything. First it'll be a little odd. But soon enough you'll be used to it and then eventually the old site will be just a distant - if nice - memory...
Hi DocP. We had to make the switch from old to new. I wish there was a way to run both in parallel so we can work the kinks out as we go along but there was no way.
bub, I think I see what you are referring to regarding the letter spacing. We'll see if we can make it a little better.
And the chocolatemachine still does not work

That's the spirit N!
Folks the essence of the site remains and is improving by the minute...you'll all get over the initial feeling of the site appearing new and unfamiliar pretty soon.
@stereo2go : No worries at all P
, this site has always been a great place to be and will continue to be. Nice to see you back in action and nice of you to elicit feedback from everyone too
What was the main reason for the change and how did it improve things?
I hope people are finding the changed font selection and letter spacing better--certainly easier on the eyes. Will continue tweaking things as times passes. I've uncovered a couple of bugs over the last two days and we're working to fix.
If anyone is experiencing peculiarities (strange browser errors, locked windows, etc.) please let me know!
Most importantly, keep participating!
Surprisingly unable to open S2G from my blackberry now...never had that problem before. The site refuses to open stating 'maximum number of retries exceeded'
That is interesting, DocP. If you could provide some detail around the error I can work to get it resolved (Blackberry model/OS/version, time of the failure).
The site is working for me with Blackberry but I am on an older Storm with the Bolt Browser.
Thanks P,
I was using the default browser.
I installed the bolt browser just now and am posting my reply from my bold.
So I guess folks with BBs had better install the Bolt Browser or Opera Mini
great going! Thanks again
DocP
I can work around 1000 look & feel issues, but without either a Search function or a "find-posts-by-member" feature, I'm in trouble...
Search is coming...

Wikkid. That'll be extremely helpful, so thanks!

Oh thanks, that'll be a great help. Will that include a "find recent posts by" function? It's how I track down any changes to topics I've posted on, without being deluged with emails...
Oh & one other thing: whenever I post a reply, I get an error message: "You did not provide a comment." If I click "Toggle WYSIWYG" it works OK, ish.
I'm using IE8 on XP.
Any ideas?
isolator42, thanks for the note. Does that happen with new topics too? Or just replies? What about PMs/dialogs?

Same here, (Chrome, IE, Mozilla)
Also Attachment doesn't work for me, "File chooser" window has non active "finished" button.
Thanks for the feedback.
We are working on the quote/reply bug. It has happened to me occasionally too. It seems that when the page has not fully rendered if affects the quote/reply. If I refresh the screen the problem seems to go away.
I have not see the File Choose problem, let me see if I can recreate that.
FILE - Хомяк.3gp
Now attachment works, thanks.

Yes, now it's much much better,
but in my opinion, user name font size is too small.
One more thing, what's the purpose of the "community points"?
I see members with just one post and with couple of hundreds "points",
how do you count them, and what for?
thanks.
Sorry for the late reply. I haven't tried New Topics, PMs & Dialogs yet... sorry to not be more help.

With a certain amount you get a free walkman
being here now feels like i've moved house,i did'nt want to move,i prefured the old site/house,but with some new wallpaper and a clean coat of paint, that would have done just fine, all this extreme change was not really nessasery at all
(just my opinion) i still dont really like the new layout,it will never be as good as the old site, but its just like going bald, you dont like it,but theres nothing you can do about it, you just have to put up and live with it..
The look & feel changes to the layout I can live with. However, the lack of ability to search for all my recent posts, or all of another user's recent posts means I just don't use S2G anything like as much as I used to.
Please, someone tell me I'm an idiot & I can do this.
btw, in Advanced Search you can set any user & a date range. However, this only matches posts that the selected user *started*, not those that they have contributed to. Close, but no cigar...
I understand. You want to be able to search any user's posts, whether it be started topics or replies. Feedback appreciated, let me research this.
Oh, if you can make that happen, I'd be over the moon
isolator42, can you give this another try?
Search -> Advanced Search -> Posted By: <username>
Include Repies: Yes
New topics and replies should result. I've been testing and looks like the replies are showing up now.
Oh, you beauty!
Works a treat, many thanks
