I noticed the old Eastern Bloc FM band (66-73MHz) on this one. Very unusual! Are you in Eastern Europe?

walkgirl - 2008-09-17 14:17

Whoa!, I did not see that!, and I also did not know
such walkmans did exsist! Confused

I live in Middle Europa (Hungary)

baby.boomer - 2008-09-18 00:06

Cool! My family vacationed in Budapest last year and brought home for me an NEC mono boombox that also has the old, Eastern Bloc FM band. Apparently, the Soviet Union didn't want any of its satellite states to be tuning in to Western FM stations (or for the West to be listening to their FM stations). Glad that's all changed now! ao - 2008-10-17 13:28

I suspect this one is radio only but it's a good looker.

I've got the 199 radio one with the speakers on the back.

Hang on, let me dig it out...

drmz - 2008-10-17 13:43

Yas, you´re right. If it is a walkman it would have been way more expensive . But a nice shape anyway.
The description says "UKW-Stereo Musikbegleiter" and not Stereo Cassette Player like for the other two models.

Your aiwa looks very similar to your universum city bummler, just radiosection missing. Maybe aiwa had the same model with fm, too?

aa.fussy - 2008-10-17 21:26

Universum must have made a clone of TPS-L2Red Facene of the pictures in the catalogue page scans you posted looks a lot like a TPS-L2 .

Also-Sony always likes to make impressive and good sounding Discman players-I quite like the second one you have.

nga - 2008-10-20 13:13

always loved that D-88.
It's like someone at Sony saw their FH mini-system turntables & thought "we can do that for CDs too" & without stopping to think about why they just went ahead & did it. I guess they thought 3" CDs were going to really take off... which they might've done if the record companies weren't SO greedy back then. Still, they're all paying for it now Smile
I so nearly bought a D88 from Richer Sounds at a massively reduced price. I wish I had now...

aa.fussy - 2008-10-21 06:45

Very nice!-I wish I owned a D-88,but did get a D-11 on Monday, but it didn't work all (so disassembled it).

nga - 2008-10-21 11:16

Little personal audio: Continental quartzclock with AM radio - 1983

aa.fussy - 2008-10-21 22:09

Nice watch-this is interesting to see a AM equipped model.

I saw a TEAC radio that is shaped and made to like a boombox.
