NOT WHAT I EXPECTED!!

lav.loo - 2011-02-10 07:21

ok guys, sorry for complaining here but i have to say i really dislike this new look there's no way of seeing who's on line anymore, the avvy's have shrunk, that's just a couple of the things i dislike.
on the old st2g it really felt like you was connected to the members in real time, now it seems as though i am posting away at nothing and there's no connection.
all the bright colours have gone which highlighted each section of the forum perfectly, i would say that this change is like swapping an 80's box for a new D.A.B radio, sorry guys but this new look has really spoilt it all for me, i don't even want to really visit here anymore

metad - 2011-02-10 08:12

Paul, is there a possibility to make forum section of the site, with more "forum look" (structure), cause now it's not comfortable to read, unlike old forum?
Thanks.

davebush - 2011-02-10 08:53

Totally agree with you there LAV.....not likin it one bit

lav.loo - 2011-02-10 08:58

thanks DAVE, im glad it's not just me, i know it was done with genuine good reason, but if only we could have seen what it was going to be like before it was changed, i bet if it was down to voting, then im pretty sure nobody would of opted for this, well atleast the majority

radio.raheem - 2011-02-10 08:59

Guys i dont like it much eather...neither does ghettoman... but its better than nothing...i kind of feel disy when i look at the screen to long.

driptip - 2011-02-10 09:04

sorry lav, but i never thought i would hear this from a mod, even when you are being honest.

lets just give it more time i am 100% sure Paul is working hard to try to make this site better in everyway,  we can send PM'S  TO him explaining and for sure he will try to better the site acordinly.

as i said in the above post, i know that this upgrade was done with the best intentions, i am not blaming anyone what so ever here, i am just being honest and stating my opinions, as for being a mod, well im actually a skin head, not a mod, lol just joking, seriously though, i knew how to use the old st2g with ease, i just can't get to grips with this new look, and there's about 5/6 things i don't like what so ever, maybe i should just shut up and dissapear

ao - 2011-02-10 09:59

Gentlemen,

We're a close-knit bunch, which is great, we all look out for each other and in the same respect, we should all listen when we have concerns like this. Personally, i feel you're pain & I too was a bit taken back when i saw it for the first time.

We are all here for the one, same reason & I hope that's to natter about these crappy old radio things we're into and the culture that came with them, which is superb.  This forum site is just the vehicle we use to to do it, that's all.  Some of us are web savvy, some aren't, it's not a big issue.  We had grown very familiar with the old look and feel and any change was going to be tough.  Personally I feel that whatever reason Paul had for making the change was indeed a valid one.

I think where I'm going here is that if we love this topic enough, which I'm sure we do then we need to stick at it, this new site is only 3 days old, we need to give it a chance.  Have a play around, post some pics (clips), mess around with your signatures, start some posts.  You guys are the backbone of this site & we need you to keep it going through this transition period so the others feel confident enough to go back into the water so-to-speak.  Really, is a small avitar all it takes to send you packing?

ned.209 - 2011-02-10 11:02

do i get a pro tag like Agent?....

i like it. jeez it was the old format for like a decade.

ned.209 - 2011-02-10 11:03

yeah im a pro!

jaybee - 2011-02-10 12:10

Whoa.
Not been on here for ages. Whats going on. Don't like change. This is scarier than the digital switchover. I need my security blanket......

jaybee - 2011-02-10 12:13

And whats with the Newbie. Been a member for 5+ years

eclipsedave - 2011-02-10 16:01

I'm lost on this new forum. Count me as one vote in favor of returning to the previous format...

beatlesfire - 2011-02-10 18:30

"there's no way of seeing who's on line anymore"

I think that is the easy fix and we going to see it soon.
I also keep exploring and testing , it's still not user friendly as much as it was before.
And it takes some time and adjustments until everyone here is getting  satisfied.
The more feedback we going to post the more changes probably will occur.
Cheers!

retro - 2011-02-10 19:15

The Home page tab has two widgets in the right corner showing who's online and newest members.

beatlesfire - 2011-02-10 19:27

That is awesome!

stereo2go - 2011-02-10 22:04

The goal is to provide a space that allows folks to come in and share their interests in a number of ways.  The forums are still here and attachments are back.  The chat and private messaging features have not gone away either.

It's been a long time, but I remember the initial board offering little else but a username and a text area.  There was criticism when we moved from the initial board to what was stereo2go but gradually people fell into a groove.  And slowly folks began to complain about technical limitations with the site.  The biggest one was legitimate: storage.  Removing old threads and taking away users' ability to post attachments was painful to me but had to be done on the old site.  And other criticism began to pop up around it's dated look, lack of features.

This new site has no limitations around bandwidth or space.  It is very new and lots of enhancements are ahead.  To address some of the early feedback:
  1. I've grown the font size, things are a little bigger now.  Are they still too small?  We can also change some of the fonts if you're not happy with them.
  2. The karma labels beneath your nicks can be changed.  The newbie/pro titles are pretty basic.  If you're not happy with them, suggest a change.
  3. The search function will be coming but will not be available for a few weeks.
  4. What parts are not user-friendly?  In what way are they not user-friendly?  Can you think of ways to make it easier.

Also, a better quote function is now in place.

redbenjoe - 2011-02-11 02:53

some of the less than positive feedbacks --
including mine --
may just be a case of not feeling 'at home'
anymore

minty - 2011-02-11 06:49

Greetings all.

The reason i liked the old site was because like a cassette player it was simple. Easy to navigate, one page with everything in view. I'm sure a lot of long hours have gone into creating this new site, but it ain't for me. I always thought facebook was for the ipod generation? Oh well, such is life!

ned.209 - 2011-02-11 10:10

i was thinking about the original boombox message board, my god that was basic. of course it was a very long time ago. does anyone have a screenshot of the first site? itll make everyone feel good about how nice this one is

Thank you so much, I think this is essential.

As you ask for suggestions here I go:

- Preview post
- why the 1/3 right display is useless? I think the small menu at the top-right could be placed horizontal....
- Easier way to see "New posts" and "Your posts"
- Location and number of post in any user message.
- Bigger avatars

Thank you for your efforts and your intention for do it better

driptip - 2011-02-11 12:01

i had been positive from the very bigining about the new look of this site, and just to prove that this upgrade has worked wonders, just look at how many members and guessts are here at any giving time.
even our brothers from the other site are interested in the new look, of course they are going to have more questions than answers, just give Paul more time and i promise you this site will once again be full of life, so far for me everything is working just right, and i am sure within a few weeks all the questions we have now will be part of the past.

dougie - 2011-02-11 20:33

I gotta admit, it'll take some getting used to...but I enjoy catching up with you guys and seeing all your new toys, so I'll stick around, if ya want me to...
Lav,
Dude, I really would like you to stick with us!

bub - 2011-02-12 11:21

Ok, this is a repost from the Walkman section, BUT I feel I have to make this clear.

The typography is difficult to read, and I know why: It's the letter spacing or tracking: Each letter is spaced WAAAAY too far apart, making posts difficult to read. This HAS to be addressed. Kerning between some letters is also off: look at these sets of 3 letters: "eps" and "kny".
Typography 101: ensure it is easily readable. This I feel ruins the whole thing. Notice how much more difficult this paragraph is to read than normal?

I'd also like to state that this font is less readable than the previous one.
Change can be startling for many- the Gawker media blogs just went through this. But when the text is unreadable, it spoils the usability of the forum more than anything.

driptip - 2011-02-12 17:21

hey bub, i am sure Paul, is taking action on the walkman section, if you see no action taken pm him or use the dialog box as we call it now,  hope this help,

and so far i see that most of us  are now posting possitive about getting familiar with the new look of this site,  and like Agent Orange said before  to get more use to it, start a new topic, post pics, get in the move this will also help us to feel more at home, evern  you Ira. you little devil.

teamstress - 2011-02-12 17:47

I like the new site layout. Sure it's different than other forums I visit, but that doesn't make bad. I've also noticed new things appearing every day, so I will be patient.
I haven't posted any pictures yet but I hope it's easier then it was before.

i tried to follow the AO advice re how to post a photo --
found the green tree icon --no problem -
then that led to some box that confused me ??

we all have pictures --in our files and/or desktops --
so how do we get them on here ??

there seems to be mo copy/paste set-up

driptip - 2011-02-12 18:18

geoffhartwell - 2011-02-13 11:08

robb - 2012-06-25 21:57

Im not a fan of this layout/look as well ! Great forum, but terrible layout

At least give us an option or 2 or 3 to change it to a different style...
