just picked up a gold edition marantz ph52L for a tenner off my mate-only trouble is i believe the woofers need re foaming-they distort at lower volumes and when a dj is speaking they sound awful,but crank it up gently and the distortion almost goes away?????is it a simple re foam would you think?ive looked at the speakers through the mesh and i cant see any perishing/splits etc.also where in the uk can i obtain a refoam kit?this is the best box ive ever owned-and ive owned an m90,m70 and 9696 so i must get this fixed.any help would be great,people!

you really need to open the speaker boxes to look at the bass speakers,can you see that they are rotted or do you just "think" they are ? because if they turn out to be not rotted,it will mean that someone has plugged the speakers in to a huge hifi amp and give them some serious torture,and damaged the voice coils..

yes Beanie man thats mine,but mines in gold-i will have a look into the speaker boxes and have a look at the woofers themselves,naturally you cant see everything through the grilles can you-like you say a more in depth investigation is needed-all i can say is the sound of the distortion is exactly the same as on a sharp twin mechanism thing i had recently with a top bass speaker on it.....took the thing to bits and found that the surround on the speaker had completely gone-lets just hope it isnt the voice coils-if im honest,listeneing to it it seems worse on the left channel than on the right.i cant really say if anyones tried the speakers on something else as i only got it yesterday and my mate gary picked it up from a house clearance the day before that so theres no way of telling

i think you need to move this box on,to someone else..i know someone

hey RR,yes she does mate,but havent had the back door off yet,but i reckon this is at least 12 d-cells- shit!how will i carry this then!it weighs a tonne without batts!and im still regretting the loss of the m90 lad-my new contact is good.....i reckon he might land on an m70 next!!!!!

Yes i agree andy lad,you ought to keep that,i love these little 3 piecers,i have my pc5 and Pc55 and they kick hard,they slaughter most of my boxes that have 6" - 8" woofers,while the big boxes flap and crap out,my little pc5 & 55 bang nice and clear with deep bass..thats my main problem i find with one piecers,they sound ok but they just cant crank without distorting,coughing and flapping about,and cabinet rattling..

i would love one of these ira but i've only ever seen them on ebay germany,and most sellers either wont ship out of germany,or wont accept paypal..i have been looking though,these little boxes are just the best..when you look at them you think they will sound "ok" but then when you switch that power on,they become an absolute beast,they are small like a lizzard, but the sound is big like an aligator,that probebly does'nt make sense,its just me giving a strange compare idea ha ha..it is 8am here in uk and i've only had 4 hours sleep and my brain is not fully on earth at the moment lol..

update guys-the speakers are fine!i twiddled around with the speaker wire a bit and re fitted it and it must have been incorrectly fitted,because hey presto the distortion has gone!now to fix the cassette deck lol

will trade a marantz 2325 for a ph52.
