Post counts

plop - 2011-11-16 06:06

Has this feature been disabled on the forum? I've made many posts, but my post count has not gone up at all. Community points seem to be still increasing though, although not going up nearly as much as before.

redbenjoe - 2011-11-22 20:18

as just one opinion about this --

i always said that post counts were a real bad idea -

and had asked the 'chiefs' to remove them

to me --it was meaningless --

and actually caused problems here

Well much as seen of people online here

@ Stereo2go can be ranked by these four

1. Newbie 2. Intermediate 3. Advanced 4. Pro

My Community Points; are 31281 as I post this?

Don't know what what the prize is - nor really interested

Though in the past Your number's of post's was supposed

to be meaningfull to some degree and or maybe in the present

upon reaching 'pro' status to be a reliable source of information.

I do KNOW that on another Site you gotta Get to

Fifty ( 50 ) post's to be allowed to sell something through

their Hidden from PUBLIC view site ( and for good reason -

Known to them only  - thank Goodness for that!

ao - 2011-11-23 04:49

I like that idea too, it prevents opportunist newbies signing on just to flog something, something I personally can't stand.

Community points are like karma, you receive them as you contribute to the site (topics, replies, uploads, etc.).  The 'status' changes according to users achieving the following Community point levels...

Newbie - <100
Intermediate - 100 - 500
Advanced - 500 - 2000
Pro - > 2000

We can change most things about this site so let us know if you have any suggestions.

plop - 2011-11-23 05:22

That explains why the post counts stopped incrementing. I thought it was strange it was working one day and then not later on without any reason.

On some sites that I have been on, there is usually a minimum post count threshold before certain features of a forum are unlocked to prevent spamming.

Paul has previously hinted that it is something that can be implemented. So maybe only allow members intermediate and higher to post threads regarding sales or valuations in the appropriate section? Of course the mods are going to have to police the other sections where a newbie has posted these types of threads and delete them where they occur.

Agent, could you explain, please - how do you count community points ?

for example:

James Craven Pierce has

Community Points: 31,316
Community Posts: 256
 or
FYJ2972 has
Community Points: 260
Community Posts: 2,556

So I'd like to know, are James' posts with all his hijacking, more valuable, than posts of FYJ2972 ??

Thanks.

 to AO --

why would anybody on this planet ever care about

post counts or community points --??

seems ridiculous to me

do people really need  credit -

for posting here ?????

i sure hope not

Dear Metad post count question responce with my Voice

The soul purpose of Community Points is to give some measure of how each member has contributed to the forum.  It's not a rank and nor does it it indicate any level of hierarchy. It's simply a way to encourage participation which I'm sure you'll agree is a good thing, especially when some members seem obsessed with going on about how quiet it is around here.  I'm not sure exactly how Community points are calculated, you'll need to read the Hoop.la manual for that nougat.

Redbenjoe, of course you and I don't need this barometer of commitment, we've been round the block far too long to care about this but the majority of members do, it's a proven incentive to contribute, it genuinely works.

So, my take on this is, if you care about your community points then embrace the topic & engage with the forum, actually, in-house fighting is a great way to up your tally.  If not, then ignore it.

Okay, now I see that threads hijacking is a "contribution" to the forum, and should be encouraged by raising the karma points.

Thanks.

redbenjoe - 2011-11-24 05:52

ok , thanks AO -

now i get it -

if it really works to help the participation -

then, yes , i agree -

good idea

isolator42 - 2011-11-25 04:00

I suspect Frank's score is lower (even though his post-count is high) because he hasn't posted much at all in the past year or so.

No matter , we all know he's a top guy & we'd be happy to see him around here again...

no doubt, this is the right place to post this link:

Hugo, Nicolle is bemoaning the fact that her country (The Netherlands) joined the Euro, so her carefully saved Dutch Guilders were turned into Euros in 2002. Now, the Euro currency is in the toilet & worth rather less compared to other currencies.

Fair point, really...

Plop, seems odd that the same person who was concerned about post counts has also just had issues with multiple repeat posts.

Is there something you're not telling us?
