for a box that has blatantly been "butchered" by someone else - and in my eyes doesn't seem worth more that 30 - and you should have let them know about the "condition".

I am fuming after reading what happened to this poor guy - and I REALLY hope it is a misunderstanding chap - and you give him a partial if not FULL refund - you do yourself NO favors if you don't.

I watch some of James "Decentman4you" youtube channel when he sent me a email a while ago and notice he switches speakers out, instead of refoaming them, if the surrounds are shot? All you have to do is replace the surrounds and glue and notice  tape speed is off, on alot of his boxes, you suppose to use a 1 KHz reference tone when adjusting speed and aligning tape heads. So not so surprise, If it true what you said in the email, why would you have 8 of the same model boxes in your youtube listing? No serious collector overpays for a box, 8 times, it just greed, you rush hacked boxes out the door, just to get paided. Nothing wrong with trying to make a buck, but be reasonable about it, not ask the price of a small car and crap work. 

For anyone else reading this I asked him, what he wanted for the  JVC RC-550JW new in the box, he came back with $2100!!

I want to thank Claret Badger for starting this thread as it just gets things out in the open.

I've attached some pics of tonight, but I could have taken more. In the first pic you see the droopy tweeter which prompted my inquiry into the box to find the issue. Had that tweeter remained in its normal position, I would have never known what was inside this box until much later.

The screw boss was snapped off which holds the tweeter down on one side, as were many other screw posts inside which were either cracked, broken, or completely missing!

One screw hole piece was broken off the tuning arm aperture, and to my larger dismay, there was a big crack which had been crapily repaired around the antenna. I wanted a good backed M50 and this unit is STILL shitty. I removed the tweeter and woofer, and found thick blue spray paint greeting me.

So much for that pretty blue which I thought was original beautiful speakers. I removed some of it and the underlying cone was even more faded than my other M50!

I'm currently taking the best pieces of the 2 units and making one better one, but I still don't have a crack-free back case which is shitty.

Ah well, what can I do.

The right thing would have been for both parties to have discussed this issue prior to it being laid out here (and there) for all to see.

It was the buyer's decision to post it on Boomboxery prior to contacting the seller, personally I'd have spoke to the seller first but we should respect his decision not too.  Don't forget that both sites offer a 'bad sellers' or 'sellers to avoid' section so maybe it was posted in a 'hey, l messed up but others should be aware' capacity, I personally don't know but not everyone welcomes that level of confrontation.

To everybody else, myself included, let's keep our own 'take' on what we think happened to ourselves. 

The seller 'appears' to want to put things right and this should be welcomed.

For one have more knowedge, when it comes to rebuilting these boxes or any electronics for fact of matter. including replacing surrounds on the speakers when they dry rot!! All you know how to do is replaced the speaker from another box? I actually go thru and replaced all electrolytic capacitors and resistor that drift out of value and align the tuner, if needed, check for motor noise and replace if necessary actually doing a full restoration, not some f**kup hack job and ask a million dollars for it!! Reson why serious collector buy "NIB" to avoid any issues, I come across way to many hack job units, i may even start posting picture of some of the crap I seen done.  

I have nothing against you at all, never bought a box from you, you seem like a nice guy just trying to make a living and have some respect for that, but won't deal with you due to the prices and now this.  I maybe out of line for saying all this, but really can't stand people who due bare minimum to get the item working and push it out the door for top dollar, when their actually some people that will do a full restoration. My thing is mostly camcorders and walkmans and microcassette recorders for now, my youtube channel is "retropcdos". I put some of the repairs up on my channel.

I saw how bad that JVC was and he said on the other forum you made him wait a month before the box was shipped out? Just give him a "full refund", and move pass this or sent him a different box, if you don't have money. Everyone makes mistakes from time to time, how you deal with them, show what kind of person you are!!

I give him credit where it's due, at least he responded to the thread and hopefully does the right thing. Was kind of harsh about the other comment, but that JVC was crap. You always have to check the items, before senting it out. You know how many items I bought from fleabay that people said perfect working and wasn't or missing accessories ? I stop counting a while ago!!
