Ha ha. A posh box of kleenex, i like that. I actually like the box, it displays the little sanyo nicely. The unit that came with this box was actually black. But i wanted the box and accessorise for this rarer green one. Problem was, the serial numbers did not match. So i scanned the bottom of the box, which also has the serial number. The number is identical in size to the one inside the unit. Then i used a razor blade to carefully cut out the serial number, and used paper glue to fix it in place. Worked out perfect. Cheating i know.

I love these little Sanyo's. It is nice to have the original headphones also. So the ES stands for elegant and slim. I've always wanted one of these for my small collection. I have seen very few for sale on ebay.

I have 2 of these units and I think they the best sounding sanyo's,
They look so unique, nobody knows what it is until you tell them.
The only problem is the rechargeable battery, however I do have a
solution if your's eventually dies. Source a AAA battery holder
cut out a hole in each end, place in the player to check the fit, find
a cheap retractable pen remove the spring ( discard the rest) place
spring on positive terminal on player now you can use a high
capacity rechargeable AAA battery or Alkaline cell, I sourced
the original Sanyo rechargeable cell's at a cost of £40 I never continued
the call, hope this gives you many years of continued use

A standard Sony rechargeable Walkman battery also works.

I do use the Sony rechargeables as you have suggested Minty,
but sometimes if the Walkman is shaken the battery moves
and the player stops. I wanted to be able to use readily available
battery's, this is why I ended up making the AAA adaptor, though
I still use the Sony rechargeables on my wm-701 because I've
mislayed the AA adaptor this a pain, I Have so many different battery
chargers I'm constantly untangling all the wiring.

I managed to get this little beauty up and running. The previous owner had such a small belt on it, the motor would not turn the drive wheels. So I put a proper belt on, and it works perfectly now. I'm amazed with the bass on this thing. Very powerful for such a compact unit.
