AIWA P07 & F07:

Hi there,
I want to show you a very beautiful piece of my collection, and probably one of the most widely known walkmans (well, maybe it's an exageratted statement) mainly because of the Back To The Future movie.
My first unit is in brown color, and it's completely new, never used. Absolutely mint:
For me, this design is unique, with it's diagonal lines. I think it's one of the best designed front door of all the walkmans ever made, toghether with some other AIWA models of '83-'85, like the P08&G08 and the J08.
the operation buttons are in an unusual position, upwards, while in the front side there are some switches, for tape selection, auto reverse mode, Dolby, pause, etc..
I'm still searching for the exact model of the film, the P02 MkII in silver, but I've had not luck yet. Here you can see the famous scene:
(frame taken from the movie)
And here you can see the original equipment:

and here a still-life photo I've taken:
Recently I've managed to get a red unit, which is pretty rare:
In fact, it's not the same model, as this one is a P7 (the difference is that this one doesn't record, but the F07 does).
Even rarer is the Gold one:
And probably the most rare of all them is the blue one:
Pretty nice units, huh?
All them (except the blue one) have brushed metal on the front door, making them a bit difficult to photograph).
If someone have a P02 MkII in very good condition, please contact me ;-)

I agree, these represent the pinnacle of Aiwa's 'classic' period, it was downhill from here.
Hugo, hope you don't mind but I too have some of these, including I hate to say, the illusive silver version...

I was never an Aiwa walkman fan but I have to say those are very interesting!

Agent, I agree with you that those were some of the better AIWAs. I find them so nice.
I've spent two years waiting for a silver P02 MkII so maybe I can go for a P07 silver, which is almost identical...

Yeah, sadly the European numeration, otherwise I'd sell it plus a good helping of Back To The Future tax

Oh, I didn't know that the P07 is exactly the same model as the P02 MkII (but they are obviously so close to each other). Thanks for the info.

Wow that blue one is amazing. I do have a Silver F07 and two P02MKII's: one silver and one red (profile pic) and they all look exactly the same. The F07 just has some switches in different places because it records.
This era of Aiwa walkman is my favorite. Second being the P08, G08, T500, J500 series. I really like the logic controls. I do think it was downhill from there. In my opinion, it was because of the CD player, it was the new thing so I think the budget changed when the Discman came out in 1985. I think it was all over when they started making walkmans in Singapore.

A very striking walkman indeed. In the 90s, we'd look at that and think "wow, really boxy", but now it looks quite nice. I like the silver.
