AIWA JX505, three flavours, again

Hi colleagues,

Recently I completed my JX505 serie with the adition of the rare JX50 Silver version, only released in asian markets. So now I have the standard black version, the JX2000 gold version and the silver version.

The JX505 was one of the AIWA's top players ever released, only surpassed by the JX707, but in my opinion the JX505 sounds better, even without the Dolby C. Maybe it's the HX amorphous head or the internal components, that in the JX707 started to be of cheaper, worst quality.

It was released in 1990, just before the acquisition of the brand by SONY, and thus starting to manufacture walkmans with worst components and lower quality.

And here's the gallery:

Actually my JX50 silver version is being repaired as it was dead.

The JX505 is one of my favorite players, for having one of the best compromise between sound quality, features and design. The first units featured an advanced bi-azimuth design that was replaced for a standard one in later units.

Here you can see my two JX505 in black version, identical externally:

But if you open the door and take a look at the heads, you can see that one is bi-azimuth and the other, a standard one:

Hope you enjoy!

What are the benefits of using bi-directional azimuth? If the head is aligned at 90 degrees for one side, both sides are aligned immediately.

I am lucky enough to also have one of each an Bi-azimuth unit and a standard.  I noticed that the sticker on the front is slightly different.  The BBE is filled in more gold and less detailed than the none bi-azimuth unit.
