SONY BBS-10 Body System
Includes : Seatback, Amp, BDR-10 Headphones, 16 Ft. 12 pin cable ( amp to seat back, 4 ft. std. HP jack male/male cable ( connect Walkman to seatback input), 3 ft std. RCA cable ( connect amp to aux. input, have my dvd/tv hooked in here ), Orig. packaging box ( exterior fair condition), Service Manual pdf ( no owner manual).
The BBS-10 was mfg. to be sold to only the largest Sony Dealers worldwide in an effort to show the ability of the WM-DD100 DOL extended bass and high frequency boost with added realism of physically felt bass to body and head. What was lacking for anyone listening to a Walkman on headphones was the real deep bass punch and physical vibration a live concert produces upon our body. The Sony BBS-10 probably was one of the very first stereo chair type products made. It consists of a Cushioned seat back you sit against while in a chair or couch. It has all the controls on side ( see photos) to adjust output of the 8.2 inch sub woofer in seat back and also the unique ONE OF A KIND HEADPHONES BDR-10 which have Frequency Response 15-25,000 Hz PLUS low frequency vibration unit ( physically produces Vibration to head) Frequency Response 5-500 Hz (one each side of headphone). This combination headphone and sub-woofer seat back produces the most real music experience from any Walkman or ANY INPUT ( has line in input also). It is a unique sonic experience different from any I have felt. Note I have a stereo system with 3 large amplifiers ( 1400 Watts/Channel total) including a Hafler 500 watt per channel front speaker amp and clearly understand the state of very high fidelity sound experience. The BBS-10 is in that category.
THE CONTROLS on BBS-10 Seat back are:
On/Off
Master Volume 0-10 scale ( controls seatback woofer, headphone and vibration headphone unit)
Headphone speaker Level ( 0-10 )
Boodo Vibration Unit Headphone Level ( 0-10 )
Woofer Level Seatback ( 0-10 )
DOL ( Dynamic Optimum Loudness ) Level ( 0-10 ) Extends Bass and High Freq. response like DD100
Inputs – Headphone from Walkman HP output jack AND LINE IN like from the DC2 or D6C. There is a Function Switch to control Inputs.
From my research I believe less than 300 of these Sony BBS-10 systems were sold worldwide. They were ONLY available to dealers worldwide and research shows a few units were available to the Japanese public for Y 79,800 YEN in 1986 !!! The retail selling price in 1986 for the WM-DD100 Boodo Khan Walkman was Y 38,000 YEN thus you can see the BBS-10 sold for over TWICE the cost of the expensive DD100. Note to buyers that price ratio should give buyers idea of price using current DD100 boxed mint value. One would guess that there are less than 30 working BBS-10 systems in existence 26 years later! Making this probably the RAREST COLLECTABLE in WALKMAN HISTORY. Certainly the most unique.
PLEASE see my following two S2G links on topics for the BBS-10 and DD100 that are located in the following descriptions. There are MANY MANY photos in the two topics of items.
I purchased this many years ago from a large stereo family owned retail store in Chicago ILL. It was found lost in the warehouse in unused condition. Owner of store stated he remembered getting the unit trying it out and decided it was too difficult to keep out on the showroom floor for customers to abuse. It was put back in box and lost in the warehouse past 20 years until I purchased it. The box is in fair but intact condition including the original label with name of store from Sony Corporation of USA Carson CA. USA. The current name of store I purchased this from is MIDWESTSTEREO on ebay here is their website
http://www.midweststereo.com The original name of store was Belmont Gifts and Camera which is name on shipping label of box with same address on label as the store now currently still is located. In the USA and Europe they were sold only to large stereo retail stores but in Japan a few units were sold to the public it appears. I can tell you listening to music with this system is unlike any experience you have had. To have the powerful woofer right behind you then the superior quality drivers in headphones with added vibration unit in each headphone side that actually vibrates your head for certain low to mid low tones is astounding to experience. Actually have used system at times when person dating was on my computer ( Desk shared in my private den off bedroom that has my movie theater in it) and I wanted to watch a movie without having any sound on to bother person on computer or in bed. Yet I can enjoy the full sonic performance from DVD movies or my stereo or a walkman with this system. It has RCA inputs on the amplifier ( also std. headphone jack on seatback for walkman connection switchable line in or headphone output from walkman) to accept input from any CD, MD, DAT, DCC, DVD, Blue Ray, tape deck or record player.

Mechanical Condition - all functions of this unit work as designed. The drivers Woofer, Headphone driver and Low frequency driver in headphone no damage to drivers all work.
Headphone padding is intact (missing inner black cloth over drivers) and good condition but from being in box with ear pads touching for so many years stored the bottom area of headphones padding is compressed somewhat. Actual headphones have not a mark on them. The black thin inner material over headphone driver was disintegrated which I removed and have not replaced which is easy enough with proper made for sound material. I have located and have a PDF of the original service manual for this item will be included with sale. Some parts are still listed on www.partstore.com Svc. manual has schematics and all part numbers. In one of my topic posts a photo of headphones on a stand was an optional item I believe and is NOT included with my boxed set and did not come with my original purchase.
Cosmetically - All items the amplifier, cables, seat back and headphones are near flawless no marks on them.
The measurements of the amp are
8.5 x 7 x 2.75 inches and it is HEAVY very solid.
My actual BBS-10 System shown at http://www.walkmancentral.com/products/bbs-10
Sony WM-DD100 Boodo Khan Boxed
INCLUDES : Original Box, DD-100, Case, Shoulder strap, DR100 Boodo Khan Headphones, Owners manual w clear bag ( 2 diff. languages).
Box is in good but not perfect condition. Have two owners manuals, DD100, Case ( clear window intact but turning opaque and case is pliable), DR100 Boodo Khan Headphones with original ear pads in good condition ( some minor amount of surface leather has flaked off). Headphones work perfectly with no distortion drivers have not been damaged. The center gear has been repaired and unit cleaned /oiled set up by Renalto ( Renzgi ) a member with more repair knowledge of DD series players than any other member. The gear was repaired over year ago. I have used this player several times a month every month for past year it performs flawlessly and the DOL bass and high extension system is the best of any Sony Walkman player I have listened to. Since I am a fan of classic Rock & Roll this is my favorite player for this music. Unlike nearly all other players with bass boost when you turn it up loud the sound distorts and a low hum is added to sound when boost is on. This player you can turn to full volume and the bass or highs are not distorted due to unique DOL circuitry. Having over 160 Sony Walkman the DOL boost on the DD100 is clearly the best of any Sony player IMO. Yes its better than DD9 as DD9 causes distortion at above avg. listening levels where DOL backs off the level of boost as volume is increased allowing volume to be at 9 with good headphones no distortion to sound.
Since this player has been used so often since repair I can safely say Renalto's repair should last decades into the future. Of note on www.walkmancentral.com Tim Jarman one of the founders of S2G has used this very DD100 for his photo of this model taken by me and also the BBS-10 listing is my unit that is being sold he has used photo of. Tim and Nick have used several of my players for their website photos and my name listed under the About tab as a contributor due to fine condition of my Walkman. I am honored they have used some of my items on their most excellent information rich reference site.
http://www.walkmancentral.com/products/dd-100
MECHANICAL CONDITION is perfect all functions work as should.
COSMETIC CONDITION is near flawless. I went out in bright sunlight and could find only 9 Very small minor marks most size of POINT OF PIN. Two corner edges have very slight paint thinning from use ( rubbing in pocket or case). I am being extremely critical and mentioning marks that unless you look carefully in full sunlight these would not be noticed. The player is not in new unused condition but a honest 9-9.5 on scale of 10 depending on your grading. There are NO dents.
BOX – in Good condition includes original headphones in excellent condition no damage to drivers. Includes Unused Strap, Both owners manuals in bag, case with intact window and is pliable.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION ON DD100
Power Output 12 mW + 12 mW
Headphone -There are a very few minor surface cracks but all in all totally usable and visually look excellent. See photos. Most all Boodo headphones I have seen over years for sale the pads are in terrible condition with leather surface all pealed off and pieces of padding missing. There is not a mark on the headphones exterior. A most notable valuable feature of this mint set. Renalto did replace the inner material on center of headphone over ear. This turns to black goo on orig. headphones.
Also I included some pics of the DD-100 box. On the end of box is the original price tag of $478 DM WOW that's a VERY EXPENSIVE PRICE BACK IN 1987 !! I checked just now and EXPERT ( Retailer Name on Label on box) is still in business today with 7400 stores worldwide. Always interesting to know such history on a player. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Expert_%28company%29
Should you have any questions or require photos of any portions of equipment let me know and I will provide.

John, for the benefit of those of us who don't have time to read all this, do you mention a price?
walkman.archive - 2012-06-14 23:49
Thanks John for offering all that masterpiece. Wish you luck.
That's unbeliveable one of the most rare and extraordinary walkman pack ever made. I'm happy to say that I have recently managed to get one, that is currently travelling to Dr Walkman's lab to being checked.
I see that you have the manuals in PDF, which I don't have. Would you like to send them to me, please?
Regards,

John, for the benefit of those of us who don't have time to read all this, do you mention a price?
PRICE : As a seller I wish to maximize what I get for items. As a Buyer they want to minimize purchase cost. If I post a exact price I either quote lower than someone who really wants them and I get less than I could have or my price would seem unreasonable and someone who might have offered will not. The rarity of the BBS10 makes it a hard item to set what value someone may spend as there is NO sales history for this item. Yes I have a price I know am willing to sell it for, no I will not quote that exact number here.
Any collector that is serious knows a reasonable "range" a Boxed DD100 ( NOTE added value from my DD100 perfect working condition, SERVICED and Gear repaired by a proven very skilled respected S2G member). Knowing originally in 1986 that the BBS-10 cost slightly over 2 times the cost of the DD100 when NEW then, Anyone can do the math and figure I expect approx. twice the sum of money that the DD100 sells for now to buy the BBS-10 which is FAR FAR MORE RARE than a boxed DD100 as in any given year a few DD100's will sell on eBay or privately.
That is why I told members to MAKE ME AN OFFER by PM. I will sell if the price is right otherwise they will go on eBay with reserves. I will not allow such valuable boxed rarities to sell at a bargain price by trusting bidders to reach a fair price. Too many times I have purchased on ebay and saved good money or sold on ebay with low start and no reserve and item went much less than same items sold in past months... Luck of draw. Not on these two items thus the reserve. BTW I am not looking for a crazy unrealistic price like $5000 or $4000 USD.
OF note anyone buying with Euro and especially British Pounds is buying item for 20 to nearly 40% LESS due to favorable exchange rates to US Dollar. So currently a $1,100 USD cost for something a UK member would only spend $695 GBP. America is on Sale !
The following information is from an actual sales advertisement for the DD100 and BBS-10 in Japan. IT WAS POSTED IN ORIGINAL POST TO INDICATE VALUE.
They were ONLY available to dealers worldwide and research shows a few BBS-10 units were available to the Japanese public for Y 79,800 YEN in 1986 !!! The retail selling price in 1986 for the WM-DD100 Boodo Khan Walkman was Y 38,000 YEN thus you can see the BBS-10 sold for over TWICE the cost of the expensive DD100. Note to buyers that price ratio should give buyers idea of price using current DD100 and repaired boxed value.

Nice auctions John
You have in the DD-100 auction no "Walkman" in the title.
Not good for search function.
Moreover is the typ of player correctly DD-100 und non WM-DD100
I wish you good luck with the auctions.
