The weirdest tape/music player
walkman.archive - 2012-12-22 01:58
Hi all,
I received recently what's one of the weirdest... err I don't know how to name it walkman? tape? mp3 player?
It's an MP3 player inside a cassette shell, but it's also a cassette that can be inserted in a walkman, and thus it traspasses audio from it's head to the walkman through the head, so it allows you to listen to digital music in your favorite walkman.
Isn't it weird?? Of course, it's also a stand-alone player and you can connect a headphones and listen to it ?!! It has an internal memory and also accepts those MMC cards that nowadays no one has, so I'll have to search for one.
It works with a small size gumstick, but I don't have any yet to test it.
I'll have to add it to the weirdest list ;-)
Cheers,

Interesting it looks good, let us know on sound quality once you have tried it.
It says voice recording on it, so I guess it will be Low-Fi.

Hey there Hugo great find. I have the exact unit with a different name called a Digisette that I got NIB. I found on eBay 512mb cards for about $7 which hold approx. 125 songs . Here are two links about these players. First link has several pictures of the one I have. They are wonderful for older boomboxes that most the tape player belt is bad so you just pop in this and viola Digital Music ;-)

Here is battery you need. To charge just find a metal spring and use a std. gumstick charger to charge it. I assume you know the formula that using the output in mA of charger and the mAh of the battery will tell you how long to get full charge. I have the formula somewhere but if do search on here should bring up I got it from a topic on S2G..

Wow, excellent John. Thanks for the advice. I'm curious to test it; not only to see how it sounds directly, but specially when inserted in a walkman...
I've found an even better batery from VARTA, which is a brand that gives me much more confidence. I also found that I have a compatible charger with this batteries (the one included with my WM-WE01; you also have one of this).
So more news soon ;-)
Thanks for the link kingrat2010; I've also found this one:

Love the look of it just tried to find one, I found it but the spec’s are so low that I will give it a miss.

Here is another type of cassette adapter which use bluetooth. You can actually use your mobile phone to transmit mp3 songs via bluetooth to this cassette to enjoy music in your walkman. This is awesome as you don't need to carry around big bunch of cassettes while on the move.

I think you refer to "digisette", as it's seen in John's box, right?

Toocool: Yeah, it's very low spects nowadays, but I don't care for that. I love the idea anyway.
Ken: Interesting gadget... but for me looks not so cool.

That is a nice Russian walkman!< looks rather sturdy and neat!!
walkman.archive - 2013-01-14 14:09
Wow, that's a nice gadget. I think that's one of the rare units that use an 'magnetic audio cable' (I don't know the name in english).
BTW: Just today I received my new batteries (short gumstick) for the weird cassette and... it works!
I also put it inside a walkman, and it sounds! Haha. That's very funny. I could even choose whether to listen with or without megabass/DSL! ;-)

It is called wire recording which reached its peak usage in the 50's. I have seen a few small Walkman sized( early Brick's 80/81) wire recorders although portable really smaller examples are definitely very rare. They could only record MONOPHONIC . Here is link for explanation.

Here is statement from last link that sadly probably in time will apply to our cassette tapes as the metal formulations can hold a quality signal for a very long time.
Although the wire recordings are holding up remarkably well, the main concern in the not too distant future, will be the ability to locate a still working machine. This is yet another case where the media will out survive the hardware upon which to play it.
KOSTH Wire Recorder ... ON ebay few years back.. tried to buy.. outbid..

I believe that these are designed for use in cars with old head units that don't play MP3s - there are a few on fleabay at the moment which come with remote control units and everything!
