The turntable 'walkman'

walkman.archive - 2013-05-09 14:49

I have recently added a very nice piece to my collection. It's not exactly a walkman because it doesn't plays tapes but vinyls. But it's a portable vinyl disc player. It could be some sort of 'Vinylman' ;-)

It's the portable turntable, 'Sound burger' from Audio-technica.

I never seen any until I found it but I quickly got in love with it. Luckily, it was absolutely new.

It even has the old batteries without been ever used. They still have the paper protection!

Here it is. Cool, huh?

It works, both with batteries or with a power supply. And it sounds pretty good! It has line out as well as two headphone sockets.

And in red it's reeeally cool. I love it.

thats so great to have found a new one --

not sure you know how valuable it might be -

Hugo that is a most rare find.  That player actually has a very good magnetic cartridge on it and the line outs do produce a very fine sound especially for such a small portable device.  It was unusual for its day that it was a quality piece with very good sound considering its a portable player.  Came in Yellow, Blue, Red and Grey I believe.  Your red one is stunning and amazing that it is new condition.   How ever do you manage to find so many NIB items I will never know.   That is a keeper.

I have a boombox that although its a not better quality mfg. the fold out record player in a boombox of its size is just amazing to see.   Appears most of the parts are identical to the Sound Burger except they really cut quality by putting in a ceramic cartridge.  The end of tonearm has high quality connectors not at all a match for the cheap needle.   Its the only one I have ever seen.  Audio Technica must have made some of the parts of the Mister Disc Sound Burger available to Randix.  It works but needs belt replaced.

yummy  burger!  how does it compare to the Sony PS-F5?

enildem - 2013-05-10 03:00

Hey John, the randix is impressive.

Never known that this kind of system was existing. I know only a Sharp Boom box with an integrated turntable.

Here is pictures of a soundburger like made by Pathe Marconi and manufactured in Japan.

It's a generic product made for different brands like Saba TDP 9355 or Thomson TL 200 for exemple.

I'll second Ira's comment. Hugo you hit a home run with this one!

Do these units come with a 45 adaptor or were you supposed to keep one in the pocket?

I can confirm you it was made in Japan.

Thanks John for your always excellent info. I guess that my sound burger has good quality, but I don't have any reference to compare and any good LP yet. I have only two LPs that I bought when I was young (and they are very far from me now) and I bouht two past week in a 2nd hand store just for testing.

What do you recommend? I guess that good records may be the classic records from well-known orchestras, right?

Your boombox is impressive, john! Really cool!! I never knew it even exist, but I find it so cool... Thanks for sharing!

Thanks Brutus!

Hmmm, I don't know what's a '45' adaptor... Oh, maybe you refer to that thick disc that fits in small vinyl discs, don't you? If so, yes, it comes with one.

Ha ha

Well, I have no idea about that. I've seen those SONY and I have been told that the F9 has very high quality and it's a DD (Direct Drive). I guess it probably sounds better...

Thanks for your addition, enildem. Pretty nice too! And I love the orange disc too! What disc is that?
