Aiwa HS-J09 for a steal!

minty - 2013-06-26 07:42

Here is an almost pristine Aiwa HS-J09 i purchased on ebay UK for a bargain 12 pounds. It came complete with case and user manual. Apart from two very small marks, it is in near pristine condition.

This walkman was badly listed alongside a pair of broken portable speakers. It was barely noticeable in the second picture. The seller wouldn't post to Ireland, so i had a friend in England purchase it for me and post it to me.

The walkman did not work, a battery had leaked inside, but luckily for me i had a J-09 that Dottor Walkman skillfully repaired for me. The problem with mine was it's condition. It was really well used. So i've replaced every casing and button from this one to the one Dottor Walkman repaired for me. I now have an almost pristine condition J-09!

Unfortunately, Dottor Walkman did not have the correct belt to fit on this one, so there is some wow and flutter during playback. A new belt is next on the agenda.

All in all, a great bargain!

hello Minty - I want to ask you, if your second J-09 (with the battery-damage and the used casing) is perhaps for sale?
I am searching for this Aiwa-unit and could not find any affordable.
And is it possible to repair it, or is it totally damaged?

cheers from Berlin

To be honest, I don't think it's worth getting fixed. The clip that holds the battery door is broken. It's also missing the window with the radio frequencies. It's basically only useful for parts.

I see - thanks for your reply anyways.

Is this beautiful walkman for sale?

minty - 2013-06-27 00:17

Sorry. It's not for sale.

Congrats Minty, that was indeed a beautiful Aiwa walkman. I like the aesthetic design of Aiwa on that era, the diagonal arrangement of the equalizer sliders look amazing and stylish.

Now that is nice. Interesting to see how much it sells for. I wonder does it still work?

The price has heated up nicely for this boxed HS-J600, with about seven hours to run and it has reached $500 USD!

plop - 2013-07-07 23:48

Wow... just wow.  Was that boxed J600 really worth that much?

Tough times...

Tough times indeed! I had intended on keeping this one, but then I seen that boxed WM-7 and had to have it. So my wallet is pretty empty now!

Hi, guys/girls

a few weeks ago I dug up my old beloved HS-J09. I thought, only the headphone plugin was the problem, but unfortunately its also the belt and something else mechanicalwise (says the guy who checked it). As this little machine was the great love of my youth (Dire Straits Alchemy up and down via autoreverse...) I am looking for repair parts to get mine fixed (the belt seems to be not such a problem if I find the right dealer? - posting from Austria) but the other stuff...

Minty would the one you mentioned above (the wrecked up one) solve the mentioned problems? Do you still have it? For sale?

Thanks for any other hints (Ill try to figure out what the other problem was and translate it to English ;-(  )

Greetings my friend,

You are welcome to my J-09. I don't require payment. What is your address?

tubbs - 2013-12-23 05:27

Dear (very dear) Minty,

how generous of you, what a christmas surprise.

This probably saves me a lot of research time!

Concerning the personal details Ill contact you directly.

Kind regards,

Tubbs
