Clever - a great find - congratulations - we need a vid now to see it in action :-)

Nice find dbxS, would love to see a video in action.

I will see what I can do . I though about useing this as my logo here!   This is extremely rare!!!  Notice on the tape case that it says NOT FOR SALE!  This was a demo tape used in Japan.  I first saw one like this but it was sealed and unopened!   I tried to win, but it sold for $209.00 dollars!   I did  write to the seller in Japan and he did have another one that was opened and used.  I did get the used one for about half of that price!   I do not think you will ever see another one.

Don't know if this auction has been ended :http://page11.auctions.yahoo.c...p/auction/n139976844

dbxs - 2014-10-27 11:25

Well, I do not think that Sony would put this tape with one of their best players, but I would. And did!  I guess that we will take a closer look. There is no date to speak of.

One of the most "serious" looking walkmans with the most cartoonish  walkman cassette ,what can you say,at least they have the same mother!

redbenjoe - 2014-10-27 12:35

wow --what a great sony accessory to find and to have and to USE !!

looks like fun-

and most didnt even know it existed

sotza - 2014-10-27 13:07

The most appropriate walkman with this cassette should be this:

caseb

primi

And if you want to see that early walkman logo actually walking, here at the last seconds of this ad:

GREAT EARLY VIDEO!   That says a lot!  If you look closely at the tape case you will see the words'PATENT PENDING'.   So when Sony finally decided on Walkman for their soon to be iconic player, this tape could have been part of that early promotion campaign in Japan!

So we can assume that when they produced the first TPS-l2 with the next walkman logo that was embossed to the door of the player they stopped producing this "NOT FOR SALE" promo cassette and that was pretty early in the production of TPS-L2, this explains the extreme rarity of this cassette.

Here is an interesting  topic for very early TPS-l2's with serial numbers:

The above theory may not be correct.I found ads that have newer models with that early logo for example:
