the discolite box is a cool box, great sound too very impressed with mine, very pricey box indeed but all grails are, once you own one you won't want to let it go well unless the price is rite

maybe sellers of gf9292s should throw that pic of cheryl cole posing with one to bump up the price

I remember seeing dozens of these at a few flea markets a long time ago. They were sitting around with $99 tags on them, and nobody was buying. The sound is average to me. In fact, it took a music video with Madonna's vjay-jay all over one to get people talking about them. Very few radios were ever referred to as a grail, and my apologies if you disagree but this is not (or ever will be) one of them.
And since we really don't use that word 'round here any more.....

For 99 bucks, I would have bought one.
I have to say though: Everytime I see one of these, I'm always reminded of the GF-777, a box I would rather have.

$99 back then , oh how the times are a changing as dylan put it, like most folk that don't own a discolite you don't really appreciate how awesome this little box is,looks and sounds great, i'm not saying this gem is a grail! or referring it to the true blood line of your more exclusive boxes like the m90, conion etc , just saying it's a hard thing to find and rather pricey try finding one, well like the holy grail itself people have and will be hunting for it for years to come, and a must for any collector as ref to madonna .... like the madonna and child, the discolite is a true work of Art.
there's a lot of haters of the discolite and i have come to the conclusion that people hate what they don't and can't have.
i on the other hand have two and love them to bits, only my opinion tho
panasonic.fan - 2013-02-14 11:26
That's a good one. I would consider owning one to be a downgrade to my collection in terms of quality. The lights are there to distract from the otherwise sub-par performance. If you tell me you like the lights and love it because of them, that's cool. But don't spin us a tail about the sound or build quality. There are better sounding Korean made models out there.
The only reason they are pricey now is the previously mentioned Madonna plug breathing life into them. Before that they were fetching $50-100.

Apologies to anyone I offend with the comments above. Not meant to. Collecting is getting what you like, and if you like light shows then that's more than ok.

well iv'e just got the intersound discolite of Stereo Mad and i love it not just for the lights but for the look too.
compared to the crown sz5100 it's built quiet a bit better and sounds a tad better too.
but no way would i ever compare it to an earlier 80s silver box in terms of all round quality.
but the lights are great without a doubt

i don't remember spinning anyone a tale about build quality and sound, it sounds good to me and also looks good to me, mind you i am getting on a bit and may be my ears don't work as well as yours, my opinion entirely... the lights are there as its a "discolite" in homage to the disco scene of the late 70's.
i don't think they built this box on sound, and as an after thought put on the lights to distract from the sound quality, it was built as a personal disco component Audio visual Boombox.
agreed madonna and lady gaga probs made the discolite much more collectable due to it being on their music videos, but also the M90 on the cover of a beastie boys album or the Conion c100f/HELIX in Breakin the breakdance movie and so on, its what makes them more desirable or iconic.
everyone is entitled to their own opinion, that's why you buy what you like, it would be a very dull world if everyone bought and thought the same don't you think.
not when you have a Discolite, har har
