It would be cool if someone in China did start making them!

Reading the old thread I can't help but wonder about member sikorski. He bought 3 crap machines from the guy in china. I would have stopped after the second one probably. I hope he is still around because I have some garbage I need to get rid of too!

I have had 2 of these sent from china.....both arrived with shipping damage......they get them from the same places we do........car boots    ..  2nd hand shops   etc.....

There were probably more sold there  and in japan than anywhere else in the world and once the sellers realize there was a market for them in the west  ....well the rest is history.......

Very true smeats! You have also hit the nail on the head! I have to admit it's a tempting gamble though.

one of the things with the 777`s from china is because its a very humid country, it gets into the pots and switches......

They all need a good clean and de-oxit when they land in the uk/us

they are pretty reputable sellers.....just gotta be carefull with the shipping damage....

It always seems to happen on the tranny side of the back case on the side

Thanks to everyone who chimed in. It's not my preferred box anyway. Looking to get a Rising SCR-2015 (20/20) a Panasonic RX-5250 and a (1st choice) Realistic SCR-6 or (2nd choice Realistic SCR-8) and a JVC RC-M70

I'd imagine that in the 80's it was very difficult if not impossible to get TV broadcasts and/or TV's in rural areas of China, but radio was relatively abundant. I'm thinking that there are indeed many boomboxes (grails included) languishing in the Chinese markets. Someone's is snapping them up and reselling to plods like us who'll pay big $$ for them IMHO...

They aren't really cheap those 777s on eBay from China are they? Especially when you add shipping. I see 777s all the time one eBay Germany for better prices. And most Germans don't have a problem with shipping inside Europe if you ask them. So why take the risk? Okay this doesn't work for Americans of course.

Good point.
