Headphone repair woes.

imeijer - 2012-09-09 11:31

Yeah, let Grado experience 'customer experience'...

I wouldn't let this go either... we're not talking a budget line headphone here. And one month out of warranty could at least warrant some heavy compensation.

True Raheem... I am SO enjoying my Technics (Panasonic) EAH-510's from the late seventies... I only repaired some foam and cloth parts, the rest was just cleaning and off you go! :-)

Are koss still in business? Had a few of theirs, in the 80`s.

I should have known. My first pair of phones were koss, that my brother got me for christmas in 1980, with the plastic ear cushions.

Their site says "Covered under the Koss Stereophones Limited Lifetime Warranty"... Grado, are you listening? And for a $50 headphone too. Unreal in this day and age.

I listened to the PortaPro all day last week (collegue brought it to the office) and I have to say it offers good value for money. The value comes from the versatility (foldable), adjustment (comfort setting) build quality and sound. As with any headphones, comfort is on the head of the beholder :-)

If I were to judge it on sound alone, it would probably be OK but not great... A quick test with the EQ in WinAmp (playing a FLAC file) showed me that I needed to extend the highs, take away some mid-bass and slightly extend the low-bass. Switching back and forth (EQ on/off) really showed that without EQ it sounded a bit dark and muffled, with a huge mid-bass, rolling off below. When you EQ it, it sounds 10x better, something you can definately live with for a long time!! Oh, and before I forget, something that I did find pleasant from the get-go: the dynamics are great, no need to change that (if you even can do such a thing) :-)

Given the fact that all portable devices can EQ these days, I don't see why people b*tch about the PortaPro, especially given the fair price... There's always something to adjust or compensate with other gear, no matter which headphones you use...

My hearing, is not as good as it used to be. To me, there is only a slight bettering in sound quality, between the grado SR80, and, the SR325.

Then you probably will be fine with the way the PortaPro sounds, although you might want to get rid of that mid-bass, it can be really fat at times :-)

For portable use, of course... you might want to get a bigger Koss for the home set :-) Haven't heard them...anyone?

Thanks, but, headphones are a sore point with me at the moment. I`ll let it die down a bit.

I hear you...

Just take your favorite walkman, stick in a tape... instant happiness!!

Good luck with the e-mails!

Thanks. I`m trying my best, not to twist the cable on the 325`s. I still don`t trust it.
