aza - 2009-10-14 23:10

Ok here are a few of mine.

This Technics was brought into the dump shop on the back of a guys ute while i happened to be there looking for bargains, well i got one ! My friend was with me and she spotted it as he drove in. He was just going to leave it there, seriously. Anyway it went straight from his car to mine Big Grin

Here is a bit of a mix and match but i really like it. Pioneer stereo and turntable, Marantz CD player in a Technics cabinet with awesome Sony speakers.

Here is my favorite and a killer bargain !! Marantz stereo from original owners bought originaly in 84/85 for almost $4500AU. The CD73 player still sells for up around $600 to $800 alone. Linear tracking turntable and remote system all for $90 !

And back to the mini stacks....

Thanks for looking !

drmz - 2009-10-15 00:19

Fantastic collection, AZA!
The marantz looks great in your hifi tower matching the wood of the speaker cabinets.
And I love the leather case for your aiwa mini.

transwave5000 - 2009-10-18 17:56

Some more Marantz.

Late 80's Marantz.

Marantz Speakers.

Marantz Turntable.

Classic Marantz.

Preamp and power amp.

skippy1969 - 2009-10-18 19:48

I want that Marantz system. Eek Eek

Thanks drmz, i think the 2 mini Aiwas are very cool too, especially the one in the leather case.

transwave5000 - 2009-10-19 02:18

No not your Marantz AZA.
Yours is a early 80's.

Marantz was sold to some other company
and after that it was not the same product.
I had a close look at one of these.
It was very basic stuff.
So beware of these type Marantz
there not the same thing.

This new company thought they could sell junk
just because they now can put the "Marantz" name on it.
Thats why some people think Marantz is junk.

Just this picture:

Check the line-in, line-out conectors on the back of the tape deck.
Well there are no conectors, wires go straight into the case like a power cord.

Actually this has caused this kind of confusion before. So its nothing new.
On the other hand it might be an odd unusual piece to own.

aza - 2009-10-19 04:53

Sorry Transwave, i apologise. I was too quick to react and obviously didnt have the correct knowledge. Thanks for setting me straight man and sorry again.

Also i had never noticed any Marantz gear that has no connectors so that is very interesting. As i said i didnt have the correct knowledge Leaving

It resembles a stereo stack even though everything is intergrated into the unit.

Here my first real stereo when I was younger Technics mirco stereo system, used to to annoy the neighbors with this guy, was pretty loud and still works perfect everything, not like the junk they make today.

lav.loo - 2010-03-28 07:29

eh bang on guys the 80,s stacks kicked butt Nod Yes, i also had a pioneer with the pop out disc changers, what a cool little gadget that was, and ye i agree they don,t make em like that anymore No No todays units are thrown together, but on the upside the 80,s ones are very easy to pick up at bootsales here in the uk, good subject guys Smile

im.out.of.hear - 2010-03-28 09:39

My new aquired Kenwood M97..Pro Logic..savage loud..but i never thrash it,infact i dont often use it but i just like it to be there, love looking at it..i got 3 of these now..

lav.loo - 2010-03-28 09:57

eh gettoman, wow nice pieces Nod Yes

im.out.of.hear - 2010-03-28 13:26

yeah these are nice, but no one wants them anymore, they say there too big, messy and have too many wires, and some say you can get just as good sound out of a small hifi..i'm not convinced, and the new stuff is cheapo and look horrible...i'll stick to my old stuff..if they want the modern garbage there welcome to it..

lav.loo - 2010-03-28 13:56

ye bang on there Nod Yes i would,nt have anything new given to me, seriously the world kind of got all round and curvy, whatever happened to right angles and good reliable built to last technology?? stay retro Nod Yes

transwave5000 - 2010-04-10 14:29

Here is a Carver system.

reli - 2010-04-11 19:34

wow that really looks nice

jamescyberjoe - 2010-04-12 15:30

I too appreciate older quality stereo equipment and boomboxes. I have quite a bit of this stuff and although my wife thinks it's old junk to those in the know, well, we know what it's about.

People and the kids today have been conditioned to think the ipod and mp3 players and phones and such are "quality" everybody walks around glued to their phone and headphones. Have you tried to buy a stereo component lately? Aside from HT they are hard to find and limited to budget models.
You need to go to a high end shop to find real audio equipment nowadays, that's why used equipment is in such strong demand.

drmr2000 - 2010-04-12 20:59

On the older recievers they use to do over 120w/ch RMS or over and only cost $250-$600 now you are now lucky if you can find one that does that for that price range. they claim they do over 100 watts but only do maybe 40-60 watts of true power due to tranformer they use in them which are cr#p. The only that makes decent midrange receivers is Pioneer for under $500 even the harman kardon are junk they love to blow the channels been tru two of them before buying the Denon.

To get even a good reciever today it going to cost you over 2k to get a brand new one if you want one with power that does over 280w rms/ch spend over 3k to get the Denon AVR-5803 about six years ago, the only one that I could find to power my dual coil speakers at 4ohms around 280w/ch RMS, this thing was meant for a movie theater using it for a two channel receiver.

im.out.of.hear - 2010-05-27 17:42

Just Picked this Beauty up..i love it !!
My Friend Had it for 26 years..it was left for 10 years not used,it was all dead when i got it,i fixed the amp and cassette deck but the tuner is dead, the transformer is open circuit..

im.out.of.hear - 2010-05-27 18:44

http://cgi.ebay.de/Akai-AT-V04...&hash=item27b21ba9fd

transwave5000 - 2010-05-27 23:54

Nice find gm.

im.out.of.hear - 2010-05-28 03:45

Thanks man,i really love this thing, the Amp Is a Am-UD4,It has bass, mid, treble controls,subsonic/hi filter,3 stage Loudness switch and x1 meter?,Tuner is At-V04,that is completely dead, needs a new tranformer,i think i've got more chance of finding another tuner than a transformer,Tape Deck is Gx-M10,10 track ipss music scan,Twin field Super Gx head?,Record deck is AP-Q50,direct drive,Quarts pitch control ect..all beautiful, also got the origonal Akai Rack Cabinet..
If anyone uk side can help me fixing my tuner, much apreciated,or if you know of any second hand shop/car boot ect, that would be great, its a AT-V04,if i find one,it does'nt matter what cosmettic condition its in,mine is mint, but just needs the transformer..
