The reason the £50's was inferior, is you need to have them cryogenically frozen first. Then they will also improve overall performance.

claret.badger - 2012-09-29 19:27

try rubbing them with snake oil

That's the Legacy Audio Focus, there's a third 12" woofer behind the cabinet.

toocool4 - 2012-09-30 08:27

I have to say I am not a big fan of big speakers, but hope to change my Peak Consult Princess monitor for a floor standing version later but at over £10,000 I will have to wait. I want the piano black or the XE version. They look so good and sounds amazing too.

erniejade - 2012-09-30 08:32

LOL   yep Love red wine!!     There is a few sweet red that also isnt bad for a treat or red ice wine but dang red ice is $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$   Otherwise  the norm cab, merlot, malbec, whatever is good and on sale LOL .

Correct  legacy focus  and it does have woofer 3 in the back.   My old speakers were actually taller and wider, carver amazing with 60 inches of ribbon and 4 12 inch free air woofers in each.      The focus and smaller in size but weigh 185 lbs like my old polk SDA 1.2 I had.   For a big speaker they are fast. A lot of people like smaller woofers or monitors because they are usually faster on the sound but, the focus are shockingly fast for the size.   The bass is not muddy or bloated unless you have them too close to the back wall or the wrong amp/ preamp on them.   My other speakers are polk rti 12 and they like the McIntosh preamp on them while the Legacy likes the audio research preamp on them.   Sometimes its all about synergy with the system.   When you find it, its magic.

I buy a lot of my audio used. There is no way I could afford $6000 speakers new but, on the used market, easily one of the best sounding speaker I have heard for the money. Usually go for 1800-2300 used depending on the shape.  They is a few different versions of them, 2020 is the next up and then the newer HD but, the price goes up on the newer ones. I think the HD versions start at $8000 new.

Toocool, Peak Consult Princess sig, An amazing speaker!!!   Nice!!!!   Only thing that can compete with them is the joseph pulsar and I think the Peak sig's sounded better when I heard them.  I heard them with a Manley stingray. Great stuff!!

erniejade - 2012-09-30 08:40

I wouldn't change the Peak Consult. if you want a little bigger sound, just add a sub like a REL would match up nicely with them. Fast tight and not bloated.

erniejade - 2012-09-30 08:42

What gear are you using with them anyway?    For my taste, I have found a fast tube preamp like the AR or BAT with a good solid stage amp does the trick nicely.   it gives the warmth and wideness of the tube without giving up the speed and highs.

toocool4 - 2012-09-30 08:58

The Princesses are amazing but i like the floor standers better, they now do the Princess V and the XE version looks so good. I am not a fan of subs, yes REL  do do amazing ones.

Nice setup!   I have not heard Spectral Audio stuff but, I have read great things about them.

Acoustic Solid One is a work of art as well as an amazing piece!  How hard was that to setup?  It looks like it would be a hard setup but still worth it.  IT has to be the most stunning turntable ever produced.  Nice choice on both.   The Roksan would match up with that tonarm perfect.

Red Ice is just amazing.  Only problem with it, it goes way too fast in the smaller bottles LOL.   I have had some white ice that was good also but, the red ice is just amazing.

A friend of mine who has a small vineyard made a cross between an ice and a peach wine. It had the power  and thickness of a red ice but peach.  Talk about a nice summer treat! That reminds me, I need to call him and make an order!   He also makes a good sangiovese!

toocool4 - 2012-10-01 16:44

Hi I have the Acoustic Solid One to One not the Acoustic Solid One, they are not in the same league.

The One to One was second highest in their range just under the Royal before they came out with the Wood Reference.

This is what the One to One look like

Acoustic Solid

but with a different tone arm, this is mine below

If you listen to Spectral stuff I guarantee you, you will want one I am hooked. I f you get a chance to hear one, I urge you to.

I am looking to change the Roksan Shiraz for something more exotic when I upgrade next.

Setup easy if you have every this you need, i.e. alignment protractor, stylus pressure gauge and  Dr Feickert Adjustment plus software.

It is still a amazing looking table! I saw a wood classic on audiogon with a WTB 211 arm but no cartridge for $2900 and almost pulled the trigger on it.   I actually like the looks of yours better vs the wood classic.

Thanks for the tip on the Dr. Feickert software! I am going to look into it.  Sure looks like its more accurate then my old Shure gauge.  and protractor.   I was actually considering a Clearaudio but, not sure if it would be compatible with the software.  I will look into it more.

Man $ for $ the Roksan Shiraz  is going to be hard to beat even double the price in my eyes.  That cartridge when i heard it against a Koestu Bloodstone, I thought the Shiraz beat it.

I wound up with a Denon DL160 at the time due to divorce back then.  Man now you are giving me the upgrade itch  LOL.  I think i see a Lyra Kleos  on a Roksan Radius5 MkII  or Origin Live Resolution MK2 in my near future.

toocool4 - 2012-10-02 03:22

Yes it looks good, mine is a limited edition BMW blue and with the Dynavector 507 MKII it looks just amazing.

When I got the Dynavector arm I rang Acoustic Solid to have a new arm board made. I checked with them to see why they no longer make the One to One, I was told the material to make it is now so expensive that it’s not viable for them to keep making it, as the price would have to go up substantially.

I was just checking the price for the Roksan Shiraz after reading your post, wow the price is now £2599 crazy. When I changed it last it was only £1800 and the time before that it was £1200. I will not pay this next time around as I don’t think they have done anything to make it worth more.

Next time I would like to try the Dynavector DRT XV-1s or the DRT XV-1t, just to see what they are like.

I have not heard the Lyra Kleos but have listened to the Lyra Skala which I thought was very nice. I see the Skala’s price has gone up from £1800 to now £2295. Wow everything is going up so much and I don’t really know why, maybe just because they can?

The Dr. Feickert software is very good, but you will also need a good sound card in your computer to get the best from it. You play the test record that comes with the software on the turntable and the software will analyse the sound to help you get the best set-up.

toocool4 - 2012-12-20 12:24

Hi erniejade did you fight off the upgrade itch or did you give in?

erniejade - 2012-12-20 15:58

Almost pulled the trigger on a new one  but then, I had shoulder surgery. Wound up taring the labrum and bicep both!   I now need to wait till i can physically pick on up LOL

toocool4 - 2012-12-21 01:09

Hi erniejade sorry to hear about your shoulder surgery, hope you are getting better?

Which one did you nearly get,  the Roksan Radius 5 or the Origin Live Resolution?

erniejade - 2012-12-29 14:02

The radius 5.   Almost..   Soo close lol.   There was a well tempered used local I almost grabbed but I waited too long.

Since i had to move into a smaller room, i sold off the legacy and now using polk lsim 705. Kept my McIntosh Mc402 amp and I have added Joule Electra LAP 150A preamp and Acoustic Zen Double Barrel speaker cables. I kept the old 1200 and upgraded the wires and added a fluid damper. I was surprised on how much of a difference that made!
