High Fidelity Magazines

Scored these at a thrift store today. Ranges from 1976 til 1984. Seems like the golden age of Hi-Fi?

i'd say the golden age ended around 92

like most engineer based technology business - design was obsolesed by accountancy

and since then - lifestyle marketing has eclipsed necessity

like the motor industry

Magazines full of Treasures.

Any chance to see the insides?

The youth of today will never know the joy of making a mix tape.

I pity them.

litfan - 2013-05-28 08:07

 you got that right

It`s odd to think. In years to come, the youth of today, will be saying to their kids "you what, you can`t download onto an ipod". Cassettes will be on antiques roadshow.

Great scans, thanks for sharing Sitman

great scans they bring back memories

Hahaha all you guys make valid points and so true! Time, technology and bean counters wait for no one, you get stuck on one thing for too long and you get left behind on the technology highway! AE, I'm trying to figure out an easy way to show you guys the contents of every mag. Any suggestions? I don't have a scanner. I was thinking of just taking pictures of each mag. Maybe one of you guys can host it? I bought these in hopes of finding one with articles on my gear since they were made around these years.

How about a specific S2G flicker or Photobucket account? It's free to set up and others could contribute. This could work well as lots a bandwidth heavy scans or high quality JPEGS being uploaded together may be better suited to being hosted on a purpose built site

aestereo - 2013-05-28 11:39

Why don't we keep the files within s2g itself. Anywhere else, we will find that after some time they become orphaned.

I just uploaded a 32 page catalog of Sanyo's 87/88 lineup on another thread. It was scanned by member mnt into 100MB+ in high quality jpgs.

http://REPLACEMENT ERROR/topic/sanyo-8788

I could convert that into a single .pdf file of 6MB, of decent quality. I can reduce the size even further (at the cost of quality). Such files can be posted in the message thread itself.

If a sticky thread with a dedicated Topic can be made, magazine/brochure/manuals scans could be posted at one place.

I can volunteer to convert .jpgs into a single .pdf file and upload.

In the absence of a scanner, a photo is the best option indeed. If you can manage to fix the camera on a tripod or so and can keep the magazine at a fixed location for shooting, you would be able to attain almost scanned page quality!

If you can email the photos, I can volunteer to convert the pictures into a smaller file and upload it.

Before taking pictures, try to find out an optimum resolution for a readable picture, but of small file size, in the camera settings. There is no need to shoot every picture in 10 or 12 Megapixel resolution!! I observe that, if you can read a picture at 100% zoom size on screen comfortably, that resolution is sufficient to share the information.

sitman - 2013-05-28 12:04

Thanks AE I'll try different sizes to obtain the smallest. Are you in the US?

litfan - 2013-05-28 12:08

What`s that, on the right hand side of the september issue. Is it a lasedisc player?

mrkeith - 2013-05-28 12:12

Cool Stuff Man

sitman - 2013-05-28 12:20

They call them video disc players and referenced CED, don't know what it stands for though lol. So yeah, early form of laser disc? Thumbing through the mag, there was an ad about memorex high bias cassette tape being guaranteed FOREVER! Is it forever yet?! Most all high quality cassettes still work and it's been some 30+ years now.

sitman - 2013-05-28 12:38

Very cool indeed MrKeith! Here's the ad I was talking about, had to show you guys before i run off to work lol.

Hi all,

Just ran across this thread. Sitman, I'd love to see a scan of the review for the Nakamichi 630. I have two of these units.

Thanks!

intermediatic - 2013-08-19 19:56

Wow! You posted the whole PDF in another thread. That's so amazing. Thank you!!!
