I have a few samples of home cassette deck brochers, if you like em, I'll post more. Some of these decks are so good they can give modern equipement a run for it's money. The best food for a portable is a tape recorded on a good home deck...

I want a Nak cr5 or cr7
my cr3 is a great piece of kit

The CR 7 is a fantastic machine. One of the holy grails of the cassette world. Your CR 3 shares many common components with it; particularly in the tape transport. A very nice machine that will always hold it's value. You can still get these machines repaired and serviced by B&W. They are pricy but their service is top notch

I love tape decks even more than boomboxes.
I had an Akai HX-A3 first then a Kenwood KX550 and followed that with a Yamaha KX580 and they were all very good but I hankered after the 'dream machines' of my youth so just over a year ago I started collecting them. I started with a Nakamichi 682ZX which was superb then found another one in it's original box and with a remote which was even better. Next up was a RX-505E and finally a Dragon. Both of the latter machines were given the full overhaul at Bowers and Wilkins who did a superb, although expensive job but I could not be happier. I have a couple of Technics and Denon machines knocking around along with a couple of boxed Yamaha's that were very cheap, oh and 3 Sony's but I don't think much to them.
Oh yes. Tapes are great.

Hi Nick, couldn't agree with you more, I love tape machines. Very nice collection of Naks you have. I had an MR-1 for many years but that was sold some time ago. I have a mint CR-7, which is my pride and joy. I also have an Aiwa AD-F770, a Sony TC-K75, a JVC TD-V66 and a Pioneer CT-F700 amoungst my favourites (and a dozen other lesser machines. Oh and an ancient Sony TC-160 (as pictured above; not the last word in HiFi but is a great piece of 70's nostalga) I have a thing for reel to reels as well (got a couple of Akai's and a Revox B77). So I'm tape mad! It all started off with boomboxes though!

Will be posting more of this soon, when my scanner cools down!!

Nice scans again Seb! Really enjoying your scans every time Good to see that old TC-FX6 again! I still have it somewhere!

sod B&W - I get mine serviced by a wee man for 20 quid
The mech is why I bought it - and it is rock solid - love the pad lifter!
Cr5's are "cheap" nowadays - around the 200 mark

The Nakamichi CR-5 is such an understated deck, people over look it but it’s not that far behind the Nakamichi CR-7.
I take my CR-7 to Bowers & Wilkins every 2 or so years for a full service.

Isn't the CR7 just a CR5 with manual azimuth adjustment? I never understood why the CR7 fetches the same sort of money as the Dragon without the Auto Azimuth and auto reverse tricks. The Cr5 does look good value and I would probably be after one at some point. Always loved the Aiwa 770 and 990 but have not found a good one yet; it is a harder thing to do to get one of those sorted out than a Nak.

good scans as usual the cr5 is a belter as is the kx580 and the 582z some quality decks are found on ebay for cheap money i have fully boxed ones for the same .

"Isn't the CR7 just a CR5 with manual azimuth adjustment? I never understood why the CR7 fetches the same sort of money as the Dragon without the Auto Azimuth and auto reverse tricks"
Difference between the CR-5 and CR-7 are as follows. The 7 has a tape calibration computer, 5 just has variable bias, 7 has reel time tape counter and as Nick says variable azimuth. I would think that the sound quality is the same. (So if 5's are cheeper snap one up before people cotton on! ) When I bought my 7 they were going for an awfull lot less than the Dragon, but maybe things have changed since then. I will post the full version of these brochers soon

I think a CR-7 is more than a CR-5 with more bits added.
I don’t know why the Dragon commands so much more money, as for sound quality it lags behind the CR-7, 1000ZXL and ZX-9. People think because the Dragon has all the bells and whistles it must be better.

In truth, I don't think my Dragon sounds any better than my 682ZX and day to day I use the RX505 more because it's so cool but the Dragon symbolises 80's excess and flamboyance and shows what a bunch of clever engineers can do when the only reason for doing it is because they can. That is why it is so highly prized.

For me sound quality has to come first, don’t want to pay for bling.
