sony discman ?

Does anyone know if the D7 was the first Sony discman they made? I have one that I went into Brooklyn (from out on Long Island)to buy the store was the only place that had one, anyway it's funny the battery pack weighs more than some whole portable cd players that are available now.

D50 was the first true 'Discman' i.e. a portable battery powered unit. Came out in 1982. Like the TPS-L2 it had a massive production run so there's still a fair few around.

Are you sure yours actually plays CDs as the D7 was in fact one of the first portable DAT recorders.

No, it's a D7 discman, I just went and checked it.

Sony D-50, D-5 debuted in 1984 not 1982 as the very first portable cd player. Technics followed with the SL-XP7 in 1985.

Perhaps you did not search thoroughly enough Wink

A simple googling for "sony d-7 discman" (without quotes) returned this auction on 3rd page:

SONY DISCMAN D-7 D7 ORIGINAL CASE BP-200 Battery Pack

eBay #: 250218231505

Obviously there really is a D-7 Discman.

I searched on E-bay and also searched in their completed items advanced search, oh well missed that one, but that is the exact one I have. Thanks for posting the link.
