Hello,

Looking for drive belts for the following Sony Walkman units:

WM-GX670 (Sony P/N 3-032-576-01)

WM-GX674 (Sony P/N 3-032-576-01)

WM-GX677 (Sony P/N 3-032-576-01)

WM-GX688 (Sony P/N 3-032-576-01)

WM-GX654 (Sony P/N 3-007-430-01)

I would imagine all these belts are 0.8 mm. As far as diameter goes, it seems to be around 2.2 " (55 mm). It's possible the belt for the WM-GX654 is slightly larger dia although I am presently using the 2.2" in that one too.

mezenga - 2012-05-23 05:45

YES, THE BELT OF 674 IS A LITTLE MORE BECAUSE THE PULLEY HAS A GREATER DISTANCE DUE TO BE SMALLER PULLEY. ALL THESE BELTS ARE easy to find! THE BELTS ARE THE MOST DIFFICULT OF ULTRA THIN AND PANASONIC AIWAS. STRONG HUG

sag - 2012-05-23 23:22

Thank you for confirming the difference in sizes. I'm new at this, so forgive me for asking a silly question, but where can I purchase these belts? I searched for the Sony P/N on the web but so far have come up empty.

Regards;
SAG

pcady - 2012-07-28 11:03

Hey, DocP.

You wouldn't happen to have an assortment of 1mm sq belts with a circumference diameter of about between 70 & 90mm?

Cheers,

-pc

philmurray - 2012-07-28 13:31

Hi DocP good to see your still here, must get some more belts off you soon, have quite a few walkmans in need of replacement belts. Joys of buying box lots. I bought two box lots of walkmans which i mentioned here some time ago and thankfully 95% of them just needed belts, talk to you soon

Phil

docp - 2012-07-28 19:58

Sure thing Phil, let's get those chaps running

nickfish - 2012-10-16 05:31

Hello,

I would seem that you are the man for belts!

I seem to be acquiring machines with drive belt and counter belt problems a lot these days from Sony WM ex808hg to Toshiba and Panasonic boomboxes and wondered if there is a 'selection box' of round, square and flat belts that i could get hold of and then replace them as they are used? Also some advice on measuring the belt required because some are stretched or broken. Thank you

Nick

mezenga - 2012-10-16 05:53

dear friend - the advantage of stereo and bombooxes is that the straps can be thicker, square type industry, already require the walkmans thin straps and a low extent. it is necessary to measure puts them in a rule is not stretching it. I have helped her new friend

docp - 2012-10-16 06:10

Sure thing Nick,

As most designs of tape transport mechanism in walkmans 'revolve around' similar belt size usage the assortment would be a safe bet for a collector or service person exosed to a wider range of pieces...have PMed you. Happy Collecting/Mending

mezenga - 2012-10-16 06:22

this shortage of belts here in Brazil leave my walkmans stopped!! is unfortunate - because of a meager and simple little piece of rubber!!

docp - 2012-10-16 06:50

hopefully something like this will help replace rubber belts (when/if I finally run out of my stock http://www.medicoil.com/prodexamstatic.php

Till then don't worry, you've got DocP

nickfish - 2012-10-16 07:56

Can anyone help please? I have a Sony WM EX808EG that needs a belt and i have asked a couple of Americans through their ebay shops and they say that the required belt is very thin and the generic belts do not fit properly. They both said that there was no suitable replacement available. I have absolutely no reason to doubt DocP who has stated that his generic belts fit 95% of machines; but is the 808 one of the 95% or not? I will be buying a bundle of belts anyway but would rather know now, and keep looking! Thanks

Nick

mezenga - 2012-10-16 08:53

HIO wm-ex808 is an excellent Walkman - I have one that I use a lot!! you have good taste   - I'll look for you these belts - here in Brazil is practically impossible to find these belts, I have purchased many other countries - the problem is that these belts should be fine, and lock the pulleys and sheaves - I'll see if I can help you - strong hug

nickfish - 2012-10-16 09:59

Thanks for that but to be honest; I have the Sony because it is supposed to be 'collectable' but in all honesty even the best Sony's sound nowhere near as good as a mid range Aiwa. Absolutely no contest! If only half of my Aiwa's had not had capacitor problems...............

walkman.archive - 2012-11-02 10:25

I've just ordered a pack of belts to DOCP and I was very surprised when I received them. They came in the most beautiful letter I've seen in a long time.

  la foto 1_resize

Of course, an excellent pack of belts were also inside :-)

so, I think it's time to do my first belt replacing...

Thanks Dr!

Hey DOCP, I am in need of some belts for a Sony WM-10 and a Sony WM-100.  I know the WM-10 belt is 3 inches long because I happen to have an orignal one, my last one and I don't want to use it.  As far as the WM-100 goes I have no idea what the specs are.  if you can help that would be great!

mezenga - 2012-11-20 05:27

the belts wm-100 are slightly larger than 10 wm-. but the thickness is the same, belts are easy to find .... I'm having a lot of trouble finding belts for aiwa and panasonic because they are very thin .... hard!! I have helped noble friend

AIWA HS-PX101  Uses a 135 mm stretched length belt almost similar to the wm10RV/40 belt. Although this size IS DIFFICULT to source I have 3 or 4 left.

Panasonic RQSX20 ( belts RDV0037 and RDV0038-2) 33mm and 24 mm belts ...not a problem at all. (members Gutman/Fotis/Costin Dan/Antun have reported that these sizes work fine)

Hello DocP, i need a belt for my DCC170 recorder. I search a square belt of 65mm in diameter but 0.6 thickness. The original seems to be 0.5 but 1mm wont work. I will try 0.7 yours.

I think I will buy you the full set of : 25 belts(0.7/0.8mm).

PM me.

Hi DOCP, any news on the above?

Thanks

Andy

docp - 2013-02-19 05:45

Sorry for the post Valentine's Day sluggishness

1. Jedi, have PMed you

2. Andy ...not a problem I've PMed you too

jedi - 2013-02-22 13:44

I'm blocked, I asked to DocP in PM the real thickness of his tiny belts. Because due to the design of the motor on the DCC130/134/170, it's impossible to put more than 0.7. The original size is 0.6.

See 4 last pictures at

http://jonathan.dupre.free.fr/...dex.php?/category/95

Very frustrating. I will wait for his answer.

docp - 2013-02-25 05:28

Dear Jedi,

I used a pair of 1/10th mm dental calipers to measure the thinner belts belts and I can safely say the cross sectional thickness is safely between 0.6 to 0.7mm. (have updated this info wherever possible in the thread)

Happy mending

DocP

hi there DocP, looking for the wm-fx55 drive belt, and u know where can i buy the headphone/remote jack? thanks

kewlk - 2013-03-17 07:47

Greetings to the forum, just joined..very first post.

Hello DocP. I am in need of some belts for both of my Aiwas: HS-PX101 & HS-JX810. Do not have the service manuals for either unit, so I'll need your help identifying the proper replacements.

Disassembled the 810 yesterday. The belt diameter is approx 0.7mm and it is not round (has at least one flat side). Unable to estimate its original length accurately, as so much of the belt has deteriorated.

Please PM whenever convenient, thank you.

n.jeff - 2013-03-17 20:18

Hello DocP,

I've a wm-b602 in need of a belt and a wm-701c on the way that needs one, too.  I believe they both use the same part but I gladly concede to your experience.  Would you please be able to help me out with these?

docp - 2013-03-18 07:49

Welcome to the forum Gabe ,Kewik and n' Jeff. Check your PMs shortly ...belts shouldn't be a hassle at all

Hey DocP,
I heard you're the man to go to for Belts! I pulled out a walkman at the back of my electronics draw and found a WM-7 but of course the belts gone! I've taken it apart and extracted the old belt but it's in pieces so I'm not sure what length it should be. Are you able to help me out with a belt? Please PM me if you are and how much it'd cost to send a couple to Aus (always good to have a spare)
Thanks

digby - 2013-03-27 22:45

Hi there,

I've just joined up here as I've just picked myself up a sony wm fx-453 and was hoping to track down a suitable belt for it. So good to see so many people still collecting and enjoying walkmans..I think I now have the fever!

I just got a Sony F-10II Walkman that would not play on tape. I took it apart and found the belt had pretty much turned to tar. I cleaned up everything and tried a belt I had handy from previous repairs of full size cassette decks. The belt proved to be to thick. Do you know where I can find the proper size belt for this unit?

Thanks.
