Being very observant can pay off. Even though have not been buying online keep eye for those poorly worded auctions. Saw one only said Aiwa HS-PX410 dolby. Only reason even looked was the PX prefix usually was on dolby C model (PX101,PX303,PX505,PX1000). Bad quality single picture so was going to ask question if dolby c but knew if he allowed question to be published on auction someone searching for dolby c might show up and I would never get it for bargain ( paid 7 GPB !!). So I managed to enlarge picture greatly and using magnifying glass could make out the DOLBY B*C NR trademark on front ... .WOW. As far as I know no one in forum has one and the definitive list of Dolby C Walkman does not show this model. I am going to post after this a topic "THE DEFINITIVE DOLBY C WALKMAN". There we can debate and post all KNOWN Dolby C models.
The logic controls on this create a distinctive loud SOLID yet smooth CLUNK of engagement, most satisfying actually. The sound is one of best of all my dolby C models ( have 9). Of special note is the DSL that on vol. levels of 6 or lower add excellent extension of freq. range without over doing it. I have found that even among same mfg. and dates of making unit DSL, Bass Boost, MEGA BASS and others cause a low hum when on or just muddy the sound mostly in some way. Unlike DC2, D6C (respect the purity of circuitry though) which lack this only the DD9 compares. The high end is slightly less than DC2, DD9 RQ-S80 yet in own right a true top sounding player. AND ITS LOUD...of special mention check out the 2 AAA batteries built IN not add on to player. NO dreaded 2 volt lead acid here or limiting 1.2 volt gumstick. Always prefer the higher voltage models using two 1.5v as I believe you get better sound than trying to make superior sound with only 1.5V such as DD9. Been using for past 2 weeks and loving it, works perfectly. It is amazing too that cosmetically close to perfection of finish. And styling wise is simple , understated and well executed.
AIWA HS-PX410 DOLBY C
Notice the heavy ribbed solid made battery holder and Aiwa's attempt to keep size of player smallest by battery bulge to side and very slight rise of battery area. No weak cracking fall off add on battery holder that many Aiwa's used with no option for internal battery. Player is ALL METAL only battery holder is plastic.
VERY LOW SERIAL # 279Looking at serial number I do not believe they made 100,000 or more of this model being dolby C and no one knows of this unit. With full number being UEC53200279 you can see that this is either 200,279 or 279. We will never know for sure.
From appearance of pinch roller and head I would say this unit was almost never used.
