JX Line: AIWA's top-line walkmans
walkman.archive - 2011-09-08 07:35
On top of AIWA's PX line it is the JX line, which represent the most advanced and full-featured player they made. I like this players a lot and find the design very attractive and particular, especially for the JX303.
I believe that his line began after the wonderful HS-J08 and continued until the HS-JX909. They all have almost the same features as their PX cousins, with the addition of radio and recording capabilites.
Here you can see the JX101, JX303, JX505 and JX707, which I believe is the complete line. Mines are in beautiful near mint condition, with case and remotes. All of them have been "relived" with new caps and other minor repairs. And all of them sound very good. Especially the JX505, that for me is the best sounding, but not so far that the rest.
It's interesting to see how much the remote connection was changed through the years, from a multi-pin on the JX101 to a fully integrated mini jack on the JX707:
The JX101 was the first one and, like his brothers, at the time of releasing was probably the most advanced walkman available. With digital radio, feather touch buttons, remote controller, stereo recording (only through external micro), music sensor, blank skip, etc... it was indeed an advanced player.
JX303 was the sucessor and was released on 1989. It came with DSL and HX head as the main new features.
JX505 was released on 1990 as far as I know and it came with BBE system, new bi-azimuth alignment head, new "pipe" earphones and all the stuff it was already fitted into the JX303
I don't know when exactly, but probably a bit later was released the famous golden version, the JX2000:
JX707: It was released on 1991 and was the last member of the line, followed of a JX929 that was, in fact, the same except for the new logo (caused by SONY acquisition) and some minor changes.
It came with Dolby C, BBE, amorphous head and voice navigation, as well as all the features that the JX505 already has. This walkman is considered the most advanced ever made.
A bit later AIWA released the JX3000, the golden version of the JX707, with the same features, but in a golden box (which I do not have). Also, the remote, headphones and mic were golden too!:

Dear John,
Thanks for your message. In fact, I was asking myself why no one tells anything. Maybe no one like these walkmans, my post or maybe I said something inapropiate, but I re-read it and found nothing.
So thanks again ;-) I'm very happy to find such treasures in very good condition thanks to ebay and to help provided by veterans like TheLion and some others.
Soon I'll have some free time and will update my webpage with this beatiful pieces.
BTW, why don't you post some of your long and very rich posts again? I miss them ;-)

I sold one of the JX-505's on eBay a couple months ago. It was an excellent example, still brand new in the original box. I purchased it in Honk Kong (for HK$1,765) in the early 1980s, so I don't think your later date guess is accurate. It had the remote, case, rechargeable battery pack and battery charger. Also included was an add-on battery holder (for AAA batteries) that screwed onto the side allowing the use of regular batteries if the included rechargeable battery ran out. A very well thought out and feature packed cassette recorder. I have attached some photos showing the original box and accessories. How cool is that! I regret selling it now, but I know someone is enjoying it in their collection. I remember it sold in the first 10 minutes that I listed it. I"m selling a mint condition SONY Walkman WM-1 now on eBay.

Well, I didn't know about this forum and I had no way of knowing the value of the JX-505, but I listed it at approximately $500 and it sold immediately, without even a question. So I guess I under-priced it. I like how it says on the box (upper right) "world's most advanced digital synthesizer".

It's interesting that this Kenwood CP-R950 looks like it has many of the exact same body parts as the JX-505.

Here is the box from my JX505. It is a bit battered, but this is what they looked like for one of the earlier bi-azimuth models. This is a UK destined model (it also has a 240V AC desk charger) and has the country/area markings of "AK1" on the top flap. (Not shown).
Edit - Had to add the photo again for some reason it got corrupted

It's no coincidence, since AIWA manufactured the CP-R950 on Kenwood's behalf.
Note : Since Kenwood did not have the licence for BBE, it was omitted from that model.

Wow, I've never seen any boxed JX505 like that, except in stores on 90's... Is the battery in a closed bag, unused? I believe that it will be a truly rare battery too...

Anyone looking for an AIWA JX303?
I will be listing mine for sale on eBay soon.
Here is my official stereo2go forum post in "walkman eBay items".
http://REPLACEMENT ERROR/topic...yer-recorder-walkman
This is the unit made for the true audiophile.
A vintage walkman lovers dream! Tape and digital AM/FM radio.
Here's an quick overview of my classic AIWA walkman's great condition.
It has been stored in the original travel case and is in mint cosmetic condition. However, it will need a electronic tune up from a qualified service technician. Most likely it only needs need capacitors. The audio is faint and has a mechanical buzz when the a tape is played. However, it does not buzz when the radio is in use. I have with all the original functioning accessories that are included.
My picture below is the just actual unit. More detailed photos of the unit + accessories will be posted on my eBay, along with a video of it in use. I am an honest eBay seller with a 100% feedback . Once it is posted, I'll share the eBay link here.
