Thinnest walkman

walkman.archive - 2013-04-22 14:57

Hi,

IT has already been discussed here what's the smallest walkman ever made, and the results, analyzed by John Lydle, showed that it was the SANYO JJ-P4. But... which one is the thinnest?

I think it's easy to realize that there's only one walkman that's way thinner than any other model ever released. Even than the SANYO JJ-P4 or P5: the SANYO ES-P7.

there's no need to pull out of the box a ruler to measure: it's very clear just looking at it.

Some of the thinnest will be the JJ-P4, the SONY WM-701C and the ES-P7:

Let's compare the P7 vs the 701C:

And now with the P4:

Thinnest walkman 05

As you can see, there's about two-three mm of difference. Quite a lot for this thin players!

Do you know any other super-thin walkman?

Hi Hugo, These are almost certainly the slimmest cassette based ones! The only other super slim WM I can think of that is not cassette based or a radio is the Panasonic MJ-75.

Well Well our esteemed moderator has a secret past... we never knew you were a WWI flying ace.  Those wings will get you in trouble eh ?

Hugo I would have to agree I know of no other Walkman that even comes close to the Sanyo P7 for thinness. Beautiful unique player.  Does yours work how is the sound?

I also have two thin MD players from Sharp, but here I focus on walkmans

Hi, Does anyone have these walkmans? I would like to buy the thin ones. All three if possible.

Most of us that collect walkman have these 3 models, but as they are extremely collectible and rare it will be very hard for us to let go of these beauties.  Best bet is to scour ebay and japanese auction sites.  At one time or another we were all looking for these models.  Good luck and welcome to the site.

Indeed they are. I guess it's 701c < JJ-P4/P5 < ES-P7 in level of difficulty of finding.

I think I have a JJ-P4 in fair condition for sell if you are interested...
