The most advanced walkman on earth...
walkman.archive - 2013-07-06 15:26
When someone thinks in the most advanced walkman, the 707/929 series from aiwa quickly comes to mind...
But, what about featuring a TV in a walkman? Although rather old technology, a TV is not exactly easy to embed in such a small device.
Yeah, a TV in a walkman is indeed high technology for those years, but the most experienced collectors would say: "hey, but there's only the Sharp TV10 with TV and it doesn't have remote, LCD for info, Dolby or logic control!"
Well... yes, the SHARP TV10 was indeed that model. Here's mine:
Here's the TV:
And here's the tape:
although japanese version does feature Dolby, surprisingly.
But.. what if I tell you that there was another walkman also with TV and much more advanced... Yes, and it came from Victor Company (JVC): the CX-V9
Yeah, that ultra-rare JVC features TV and almost the same features as this cool Sharp, and also logic control with feather touch buttons!
So, even without LCD for radio or without a remote, embedding a TV with such pack of features in those year means to me that this probably can be the most advanced walkman player ever made, because IMHO is much more difficult to embed a TV than a DSL, BBE, remote and dolby C circuitry (as the AIWA JX707 has).
The rest of features are almost identical: autoreverse, Dolby B, radio (not PLL), feather touch buttons, metal body, rechargable batteries, charger...
Here's the TV:
and the cassette:
side controls:
Luckily to me, I got this rarity completely new, never used. And it even works! No need for changing belt! :-O
Here's the box:
and the inside:
Hope you enjoy!
PS: After seeing how some ebay sellers use my photos picked from this forum, I decided to add some aditional watermarks...

Soon I have to photograph all four TV walkmans together (Sharp in three colours plus the Victor)...
aestereo - 2013-07-07 09:43
Amazing find.
Is the TV color or black & white.
Will appreciate some photos/videos with the TV in action.

Oh, TV is BW. In those years (I guess later 80s or very early 90s), portable color TV still didn't appeared in market... (I remember it was about 93 or so)
TV works but you cannot see anything as it is analogue and no channel still exists in my country. Is there any TV home emitter as some FM emitter for the car?

Salute to black and white! The white one is the JC-TV10 and the black is the JC-AV1. I was lucky and able to receive 2 channels! Enjoy.

I would agree Hugo that your Victor TV /Radio/Walkman is probably the most feature packed advanced technology for miniaturization for its time in a Cassette Walkman that is that small. Very impressive indeed for its time. That is a rare one to be sure and a keeper. I have a Black Sharp boxed but no analog air signal in USA anymore ;-( Does work did get a few channels before 2 yrs ago Air signal went digital.
Dean nice finds to have both the Black and White models in the Sharp.

Thanks John. The white one is from Maxim and his collection. I got the black from a lady on ebay 2 years ago. A buy it now for 29.99! This is the first time I have ever seen a JVC Victor TV cassette player! Rare indeed! Plus a box!!!

Amazing Hugo.
I'd never seen a Victor TV Walkman before. Thanks for the photos!

@maxim: well, err, i think I've just found a channel ;-)
@dbxs: wow, you're lucky! Where are you?
@john: thanks. I have all three colors of the sharp, so i guess i have all tv walkmans ever made, and all are in mint/brand new condition ;-) -> another good series to photograph...
Yeah, so here we have the same problem: all digital tv. John, you're an expert in finding tips and tricks for all this: any chance of a device to broadcast tv at home from a video source?
@ brutus: glad you like them!

I was very surprised as you all were to actually get 2 UHF channels. I live in the USA and we swithed to digital some time ago! Both were Spanish channels. We do have a growing Mexican population here in Utah. I believe that these broadcasts are for those people who still have older televisions.

Hugo, after looking at the victor tv cassette it looks similar to the JVC CX-R7K which I own. How long have you owned this victor tv? Have you ever seen more like it for sale? Now I would like to get one as well.
walkman.archive - 2013-07-10 00:54
Can you show that JVC?
reli - 2013-07-10 06:49
I do not understand. You have to open the lid to watch TV? Then what is the outer screen for?
walkman.archive - 2013-07-10 09:25
Yeah, you have to open it, because it does not have backlight (in those years there was not possible), so you need to use ambient light and a mirror. It's really curious!

How about this one SEIKO DXA001 "TV-Watch" 1982.
It was used in the movie "007 Octopussy".
sotza - 2015-02-25 14:08
This Seiko is lovely!
It was in the 1984 Guinness Book of Records as the smallest TV set in the world, although it had an external receiver.

Thank you

I really like a well kept add sheet or a brochure is much better. These were the way to seek an item before the days of the internet! However, ther is nothing like having the real thing, in the box, and in new condition!
