JVC RC-X310 Review

mraiwa1000 - 2016-06-10 13:28

Aaah yes, the RC-X310, the little brother of the PC-X100.
Yes, I know this isn't the cool one with the built-in sub, but how about we shed some love to this one for a change? As the big gold letters read "Super-Bass Horn" on the base of the unit, you'd think it'd have some sort of bass enchantment or just overall good sound? Well you were wrong. The bass on this unit isn't the strongest where bass is needed, however there are ways to get more power out of it.

The design and build quality is great (as usual with all JVC) It might looks a little fulgy, but then again it's JVC after all..

Sound quality? Not the best I've heard from JVC, but it could be worse. A good example: it has too much of mid bass (when bass is turned to max, or near max) and the treble is either dull or too much causing a annoying lisp in vocals.

Oh and how about that CD player? On my model, the laser is rather weak, and sometimes is hard to even start. When it is playing, it sounds decent (just like everything else) Cassette is the same, except the pinch roller on my model is missing, so I can't use it.

Auxiliary RCA line inputs were standard with JVC, and I value that. In my opinion it's the most useful feature on it. Like for example, you can hook up a laptop with an EQ to adjust the sound more to your liking's (which is what I do)
Tuner is alright but of course my antenna is rough.

Onto the history of mine!

It's a retired beach radio from the shores of Anastasia Island, Florida. Manufactured in Oct. 1990 and has been taken care of ever since. Unfortunately children have gotten to it. Thus, broken tape deck. As far as I'm aware, I am the second owner of this blaster. I paid $8 for it from a friend about a year ago. Not the best buy, though I'm not gonna complain. It is what it is.

Bottom line: Would I recommend this?  Only if you needed some tunes in the shop or working out. I would pay anywhere between $0 to $10 TOPS. Even for that amount they'res better boxes out there you can find for that or cheaper. DSC00389DSC00386

It does have those bass reflex ports on the sides, JVC must have counted on that when he boasted "super bass horns".

Good starter box I'd say, but taking space when you have a great collection.

I've owned just about that entire line of JVC "fugly" boxes (starting with the PC-V2 pictured first) and in that line/era I would say that the PC-X200, PC-X500 and the PC-X1000 were the best sounding in the bunch.  With the X1000 not being very portable....

The x200 and x500 have been on my list for awhile, unfortunately I haven't had any luck finding either one yet. I wouldn't imagine with that subwoofer it wouldn't sound any clearer, perhaps with just more boomy sound?

They have a much better overall sound and obviously more easily customized with the equalizers.  The X500 and X1000 also have "Live Effex" which is similar to a stereo wide function but without totally destroying some aspects (like vocals) of the music.  They are not everyone's cup of tea as they're not "old school" as most we collect here, but they are very good sounding units.

They are kinda of nice looking in a fugly way to me, i like the top one with floating speakers the PC V2. Kind of looks like it's come out of space and landed.

MIRAIWA1000, there's something very odd about this picture...

Do you drive really tiny cars?

Is a '14 F-150 crew cab or a '67 Mustang small in your book?

Only excuse I can come up with is perhaps the angle it was taken at?

Been looking for a X1000 for a long time without any luck. Something to have with decent sound in a decent static location.

the ones with the hyperbass are great, the ones with the bass horn not so good, i have a few, im with dave always wanted the 1000 even though it's ac only and not portable, if i had a few m90's this is a box id trade one for
